It is an exit from the motorway but we also refer to them as junctions (the point of road where you enter and exit a motorway is called a slipway). A shoulder — or hard shoulder — in road terms would be the edge of the motorway reserved for people who’ve broken down.

As someone from southern England who worked with a colleague who’d speak to me daily about the trucker protests, I found the first part of this hilarious.
Also, we often call a fire exit a ‘fire escape’. If ‘way out’ amused you with its literality, no doubt ‘fire escape’ will too.

Trump picked Vance in a moment of over confidence when he thought he had a landslide. And he knows it was a mistake. He regrets it. True, that maga substance is Trump and Trump alone. But, he took the risk w Vance, I’d say, very much in a repetition in relation to Pence. Not as electoral gain, but looking for someone super loyal, pledges fealty, falls on the sword & won’t betray him as happened w Pence and Bannon. So an anti-democratic/monarchist leaning pomo ideologue would be good. Vance won’t cave to ‘democracy’ shit. I think Trump a little bit enamored of Vances’s education bona fides (he’s mentioned this out loud), b/c Trump is out of fresh ‘ideas’ … like the 2016 ideas… of Bannon, Stone, etc. He’s probably looking for an ideologue bc Bannon out of the picture… so Vance and 2025 project… these r the ideas for monarch Trump, who really has no ideas himself with the exception of the idea of Trump. Trump only interested in himself, he could care less about a ‘successor,’ Victor. But he’s out of ideas and that ‘intellectual patina’ appeals to him as a source of ideas to brand his name in policy, historical legacy, like repealing Roe. The overly on line character of Vance and DeSantis culture war fringe def is overcompensation to win over maga that is suspicious of over educated guys , esp Vance who was a previous anti Trumper. And it is irony… bc even if a bit of a convert believer.. Vance is just a hollow reed of ambition. Period.
Then there’s the unconscious aspect… going back again to the all important question for him of loyalty and doing his bidding—- that failure with Pence, but with Bannon too to some extent, especially irksome. So think about it. The Names. Pence/Vance. Monosyllabic ending in ‘nce’. The repetition. But this time the signifier moves from PE to VA. Humor for me: from PEnis to VAgina. Phallus to lack. …….
Trump’s motivations are petty and transparent—-only about his self aggrandizement and celebrity spectacle—-and we’re lucky bc this undermines his competency very often….but how he makes his ‘decisions’… I think u can only ascertain psychoanalytically… Truth Social ought to be renamed ‘ Social Unconsciousness’.
Btw, the only reason Trump disavowed 2025 is bc he’s a savvy politician trying to win a national election and he knows 2025 plays too fringe. He distanced himself from it just like he distances himself from abortion ban… tho he is the reason Roe was repealed. He’s a better politician than DeSantis and Vance nationally….otherwise he’s on board.
I do think Trump is ideologically aligned with the disintegration of governmental bodies and institutions, bc that chaos and then rewrite wd serve his interests of executive monarchic oligarchic power. And don jr would succeed him… then Barron … forever and ever.

As much as I feel embarrassed by commenting so much I want to express another thing. I’ve recently followed Durkheim though Kant, sociology of knowledge, and I even went to Kant. But as I underaged the genealogy of this ‘sociology of knowledge’ that I’m interested in, well, I ran into Karl Mannheim. Have y’all ever done a video on him?

what connects things is Friend / Enemy distinction and if in power they get to choose the state of exception. It is technocracy but with pathos invested in for these guys hate the concept of feeling pathetic, they crave flattery and being told they are superior. (even if they are not superior they are just people who want power, it is still the theory of social dominance is a net good)

Right. I recall a comment being made about enjoying when someone else does the reading of Hobbes... Well how about a look a Wainwright and Mann's 'Climate Leviathan'? Their proposed Behemoth of eco-fascism seems increasingly adopted by these disparate right groups as a playbook.
I mean, you've looked at Eco-Marxism(s).
p.s. Exit signs exist in England but they're more of an aspiration for escape than of practical use.

Japan's got the same left/right swap for driving, walking, es-de-es-calating, also the tons of bicycles as far as the eye can see, whole parking lots. Interesting that Canada is in the minority then in terms of "pavement" being the road, US also calls walking path pavement and road the part you drive on, and the street sometimes meaning the whole common pathway or sometimes only being the part you drive on. I think when you hear those differences in word usage/swapping you really feel those tug strings pulling on your own attachment to your specific contingent signifier as *being* the signified in itself.
DEI really is here to stay. It seems like the logical slogan conclusion for anyone who has been converted by the "pull yourselves up by your own bootstraps" church of individuality. The reason why it's so sticky is because its inherently sexist and racist, without being directly so, aides often by the users vocalization and bodily posturing. An easy, low hanging fruit good/bad grunting ape distinction. They're going to keep hammering Kamala Harris with DEI as the reason of her hire. Nonstop.
The whole way of talking Pills pointed out is 100% on my mind all the time. This was the reason why I know Bernie Sanders was so insanely popular out of no where, when he spoke it sounded like a chat, a conversation with someone who had something ernest to talk about, who was genuinely concerned with what they were talking about, not something rehearsed and awkward and empty. I think you can feel the rhythm of talk, and if the rhythms off, it feels artificial.

I had thought of project 2025 as a fearmongering project perfect for the democrats to scrounge up votes. I tend to believe that the parties in the US need enough people to vote in order to make their actions seem like they were given consent.
