a car service station may be able to pressure test the cap if they have equipment, for probably less you can buy a new cap. after a while the spring in the cap loses strength and can not hold the 12 psi the systems are designed to operate at. i was thinking of the of the impeller on the engine coolant pump (not your raw water pump) this pump is operated by your " fan belt" and it circulates your coolant., that may of corroded over the years. when you opened your system your coolant didn't look right ( I realize you changed it since) your system may of needed to be flushed before refilling. you could check to see if the coolant is circulating by opening the cap on a cold engine, running the engine till the thermostat opens then you should see it moving in the tank. this would be so much easier on Discord maybe we can set up a time to voice chat. cheers

We haven't tested the radiator cap pressure - do you know how it can be tested? After motoring, we checked for leaks and only some of the coolant came out, but apart from that no other leaks. We also exchanged the impeller. The old one looked fine, but just in case. Just 10 days ago, we flushed the old coolant and added new one. After that we suspected a buildup on the mixing elbow, so we removed it and cleaned it, too. Yet still we got shaken by the engine overheating alarm again. 😡

Oh dear more worries, have you had your radiator cap pressure tested? An other suspect could be the water pump. Usually the seals leak and it’s easy to see but considering that you’re not leaking could it be the impeller not working at its best or corroded? Has salt water ever gotten into the antifreeze?? I’m just poking at things here
