19 Days, 2100NM & Years of Preparation!

It's done! Just a few days ago I ticked off an item from my bucket list, that I never thought would be on there: The Crossing of an Ocean!

What an incredible experience it was! 19 days of nothing but sheer endless blue water and blue skies.

Even though we had prepared CUBA for many years for this immense leap, it was not certain until the very last minute if we would actually be able to pull it off.

So, until we lifted anchor and hoisted the sails, I hadn't even found the time to let the reality sink in that we are going to sail to the Caribbean.

And then all of a sudden it was just us, and the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean in front of us. Naively one of my first thoughts was that I had not packed enough books and reading material to keep me entertained for the passage.

But with only 4 hands onboard, there wasn't actually ever any time to sit and read. And while one of us slept for 4 hours the other kept a close eye on the weather, our route, and the horizon off of our bow.

Unsteady winds, sudden gusts, regular squalls, and a difficult sea state kept us "entertained" most days and nights. And with each day passing, I realized more just how big this ocean really is.

But after almost 3 weeks we finally spotted land again whohooo!
