Life Taught Us To Follow Our Passions 🥰

However, our journey had already started leaving Gibraltar for an 18-day sail some 18 months earlier. We were complete novices, and SV CUBA was not yet prepared for long passages. But that did not hold us back!
Life taught us to follow our passions, whenever we can. And with hardly any experience we planned the 1100 nautical mile-long sail towards an island, we knew only little about.
Most people told us we were crazy. After all, before setting off we had only dropped anchor a couple of times, hoisted the sails in light conditions, and had never actually sailed from one country to another let alone ventured so far out to sea that no more land was in sight.
It may have looked to others like we had all the confidence in the world to start this new chapter of our lives. It may have seemed like the winds were always in our direction. Yet, sailing has and still is not always as smooth as we hoped for. Oftentimes, we battle through rough seas until exhaustion to find a safe place for our home. There are nights when we are woken up by thunderstorms and sudden winds, fearing our anchorage is no longer safe.
It is those times that test our courage. Alone in the dark, the wind howling so loud you cannot hear your own voice. Those moments push us out of our comfort zone and make us go further. They force us to focus on the here and now. To pull through until the storm and darkness have passed. But most importantly, they teach us to enjoy the sunshine and forget our worries during the brief moments life allows us to.
