We sail around the world! Join us this week as we leave our anchorage in Kalamata, Greece. All of Europe is in a severe heatwave and it is almost impossible to explore the land on foot. So instead, we decide to catch some of the slightly fresher wind and sail to Athens. At least it feels a little cooler on the water.
As we reach the island of Elafonisos we drop anchor and the thermometer soon reaches over 42 degrees Celsius inside our sailboat. Elafonisos island has a very protected anchorage, but it soon becomes unbearable inside SV CUBA without a breeze. However, with the help of a little invention and some tweaks below deck, we manage to keep ourselves and our furry family from spontaneously combusting.
Chores don’t stop if you a living at sea and once the sun goes down, we dare to go out and hunt for fuel. This is when we are met with a pleasant surprise by one of the island’s inhabitants. It absolutely made our day!
With new gas in the tanks, we continue our journey, since Enrique found out there is not just a natural phenomenon just a day sail away but also a sunken ship near Cape Maleas. So, once again we prepare our sailboat to explore a new place. Come on board, sail with us and join the adventure as we find the wreck off the coast of the Peloponnese.
