Presenting our newest CYOA: Circe's Favor

Hello everyone and happy February!

As some of my readers may no, back in the summer of ‘20 I did a ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ style novel that allowed for anyone to bid for one of the seven slots available in order to have their own characters included. After eighteen chapters, with each one ending in a decision that was up for vote for my followers on Patreon, the tale of ‘Dr. Daring’s Laborynth’ has finally concluded. And while I edit together a final version to be available in the coming month we can now start to look forward to the next adventure. Which brings me to today’s announcement.

I’m pleased to reveal the next interactive storytelling experience: ‘Circe’s Favor’. As opposed to Dr. Daring’s bleaker and darker setting, Favor will have a gameshow setting with a lighter tone that’s no less indulgent when it comes to transformation. Including both full and partial animal transformation, along gender swapping too, there are a myriad of possibilities for any contestant bold enough to take a chance at surviving until the end. This will all be told in an anthology style which will breakdown things for slightly easier consumption and to help manage a larger cast. I say larger because this time we’re going up from seven available slots to twelve (12). Something that should allow for a lot more fun. ^^

So how will this all work? Well, it starts with the introduction to the story that I’ve also posted today. Reading it will set the scene for what’s the come in terms of the show itself along with the stakes and other elements. Next I’ll be taking bids- the process to be covered in detail more below- from people interested in having their characters included in the story. Once I have the twelve characters and the first chapter is out on my Patreon, voting will commence. My Patrons will decide what happens next from a list of provided options, creating a story that even I can’t predict. This continues until we reach that finale with just one person left standing. And if the last story was anything to go by, it’ll be quite the snaking tale!

But now onto the primary purpose of this post which is to fill those twelve spots. Things will function very similar to how they did during the last running with a few adjustments to account for the different story being told. So if you’re interested in having your own character involved then this is for you. It is very much a ‘Your Character Here’ scenario where you’ll be able to submit a character as a competitor for the story’s gameshow. This will be done bidder style with people submitting both their characters along with whatever dollar amount they’re bidding. The highest bidder by the end time and date will take the slot.

For those interested in bidding on one or more of those slots, the bidding will go a slot at a time across several websites so bids will be sent in emails to me including the character and bid amount.

Below I’ll list the basic criteria for those characters:

- Be human, between the ages of 18 – 70, and exist in our world.

- Include as detailed a description of the character as you can give me. Pictures as additional reference help even more. Can also give clothing preferences, given the tropical setting and accommodations.

- General personality traits this character would possess.

- Basic backstory

- Which reward (money or cureall) they’re aiming for and why.

- Useful Skills

- Transformations you DO NOT want (anything completely off limits).

- Transformations you’d prefer (The more options you list, the better).

Some further notes to keep in mind when bidding for one of these spots:

-This is open to anyone and doesn’t require you to be one of my Patrons to participate. However when it comes to individual chapters and votes for the story’s direction, those will be determined by my Patreon voters at my ‘Kate’s Adventurer Tier’ and above.

-If you’re coming in hoping for a particular transformation to occur to you (horse or pig transformation, for example) this is not the story for you. While I will try to honor some requests, and will definitely honor DO NOT lists, your fate is in the hands of both me and the voters. So be open minded as to the possibilities. If you provide only one or two options for your accepted transformations, this may not be the story for you.

-I can guarantee your character will survive their initial appearance and the first chapter but beyond that, it’s up in the air. How much you bid for your character’s slot will not determine your survival chance, sadly, but I will do my best to make sure everyone gets some spotlight.

-Providing multiple options for your character’s personality can be helpful as well. As my readers know, I like all sorts of characters in my stories so I’m looking for a good variety. Not saying every character needs to be a rebel, but I’m not looking to have seven carbon copy characters either.

- If your backstory was you were a super-ninja computer hacker from the future with magic powers, I’m not interested. Realistic characters, please. They’re more fun when given unrealistic situations.

-When I say skills, don’t say, “I can hold my breath for an hour” or something silly since I’m not as interested in silly characters. “Has diving experience” is far more useful a trait when it comes to building a character. Interpersonal skills, ability to start a fire with just rocks, some survival skills, or whatever can help you think but I’m not interested in perfect characters that can do everything. The story is based on competition and having super-characters takes that challenge out. I’m not looking for superheroes. I’m looking for characters.

-Regardless of your character’s fate, any winning bidders will also receive a free copy of the completed novel.

Now today’s post is here to both showcase the story’s introduction and get anyone interested in participating thinking about what character(s) they might to bid with. Come Thursday, February 17th I’ll start the actual bidding for the first slot here on Patreon. I’ll have more information along with details of exactly how to format bids and where to send them. The first five available slots in the story will be open to Patrons only so all of you will not only get the first look at the chapter, but first dibs on any slots too. Once those are filled I’ll open it up to everyonem posting to sites like FurAffinity and DeviantArt, until the whole cast is filled. At which point, based on what characters I have, I’ll break everyone down into three groups then start the tale.

One thing I will point out, since I will know it will be asked: yes, in the introduction fifteen is mentioned as the total contestant size while I’m only offering twelve spots to bid. Those three remaining characters will be creations of my own for the purpose of helping to ensure fun group dynamics. And to shake things up a bit. ^^
