What if the Soviet Union never formed QnA
Added 2024-05-02 18:00:05 +0000 UTCAs far as numbers go the latest video is set to become the most watched video of the year.
What did you think about it?
As patrons you get the benefit of asking specific questions on the video relating to research/writing/production so feel free to drop them below and I will try to get to them when I can

I like the more realistic aspect of it. The only other scenario I’ve seen with Kolchak being dictator of Russia was Red Flood, so doing it differently, and in a realistic and sane manner was great. I’d like to see a part two, and how this affects the Interwar years up to the Second World War, if there even is one.

2024-05-04 00:27:47 +0000 UTCReally loved it, it was nice to learn more about Nicholas II and some of the finer details, also it made me think of a video idea, what if the ottomans survived past ww1 or at least until ww2

2024-05-04 00:06:51 +0000 UTCOh yeah…guess that is pretty true. Well, if there is a part 2, that would be interesting to see what that answer will be.

2024-05-03 12:36:42 +0000 UTCI'm not sure you watched the video based on your comment but #1 The Revolution DOES happen without Lenin (it's just less organized, less potent precisely because of what you pointed out) #2 You are indeed correct this video could have been a 2 hour series, but for many reasons some cuts had to be made

2024-05-03 10:52:10 +0000 UTCThis might be a very unsatisfying answer, but I can't really stretch the timeline that far without #1 Being totally off based on factors that would take dozens of hours to research #2 Would be a potential spoiler in the case where this video is voted on to have a sequel. Japan can't hold onto China in any timeline and a Chinese communist state in this timeline is highly improbable. Going as far as the Cold War implies WW2 goes very similarly to our timeline. For example would White Russia industrialise better than Red Russia? The outcome of that basic question would lead to vast changes

2024-05-03 10:50:20 +0000 UTCThe current approach is this: Once in a while a poll will be made for which video gets to have a sequel. To be fair the videos aren't meant to be open-ended it's just that like real history alternative history never has a specific end point as one event/war flows into the next naturally. In terms of research I used multiple books and documentaries that I will find it hard to recall now (as my mind is preoccupied with the video that will drop a month or two from now)

2024-05-03 01:57:34 +0000 UTCI liked it, I think there is a LOT of uncertainty in this scenario making it tough

2024-05-02 20:22:18 +0000 UTCSo basically like how the Texas Revolution was going to happen no matter what?

2024-05-02 19:24:26 +0000 UTCI dont know. Ill be honest and this might sound like a "Well, ackshually" post but here it goes. I think it was a good effort but, as a Russian history guy, there was ALOT left out. And I understand on the basis of time and length you really couldnt dive in but I think there were just too many variables here. You didnt mention Bukharin, Kamenev and Zinoviev at all really. Those guys, along with Trotsky were the leaders of the party and they ALL hated Trotsky. He was too left wing for even them. Like I said, a good effort but the October 1917 revolution was going to happen with or without Lenin anyway. Im a "big man" history guy and I remember sitting in one of my first classes about the revolution in the 1990s and the professor hands out the sylabus and the first book on there was Sheila Fitzpatrick's book on the revolution. The bottom line is the revolution was going to happen but it wasnt an organic thing the people like Fitzpatrick expound, swelling up from the masses. You had just so many actors on the stage, it was hard to keep track of them all.

2024-05-02 19:11:11 +0000 UTCWell, it was pretty interesting to see a world without the Soviet Union. I’m curious though how will what would have been the Cold War era would have looked like. Also, I’m curious about the outcome of China, Cuba, and all the other Communist countries. Like, will China become the Soviet Union of this version of events or would the Imperial Japanese basically take over China?

2024-05-02 18:32:39 +0000 UTCWish it was longer

2024-05-02 18:14:48 +0000 UTCWell I certainly found it interesting. I do like this new approach of making multipart scenarios to explore greater ramifications (just so long as the parts aren't as long as the old Rome series, three parts at max imo). Out of curiosity, what was your main source of research for this vid? I'd love to know more about this topic!
