Hi Everyone,

The questions:

Harsh was wondering about these kinds of practice bands. Are they worth it? Useful? I gave some thoughts about these, but also about a general approach to practice that might answer these types of questions down the line.

Ray was hoping for a quick round up of guitar embellishments. This isn't the way I think about things, but I tried to give quite a few examples of the types of chord embellishments that translate to lead concepts using Music Theory Monday info.

Anthony was looking for some ways to practice timing. I gave a little talk about the sacred metronome. Happy Birthday to you and your daughter!

David asked me how I keep track of all the song ideas I've written.

Ray F asked about loop pedals and buying pedals in general. I forgot to mention you need a power supply too. If you need info about that, ask about it in the comments or community forum.

Mateus asked about mixing major and minor scales in a Major Key song. I talked about the blues IV chord trick.

Jeff graciously helped me figure out my face-to-face chat system (still needs some work) with a question about how to handle two bends in quick succession. Right hand muting? Left hand muting? How to handle that.

Jason asked what the Rubiks Cube series is about. I gave a taste

Hey David :-) it would be so great if doing it Scottโ€™s way worked for me, but I often feel like I need more information to return to. In that case here is my process: 1. make a video of myself playing the song or song bits 2. Go to notes and write out the name of the song and/ or chords, then copy/ paste several times on notepad, take screenshot 3. Go into iMovie and first use that still photo from notes, which is going to scroll (that is why I repeated it several times), then add video 4. Save video to photos 5. Put in song folder with its other friends It sounds like a lot, but this is what has worked well for me. You can also just put it straight into a folder, but I found that I like having the title there, so it is easier to find what I am looking for

The most fun part of office hours is jamming with your intro track while waiting for you to come on. Itโ€™s a great groove. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ๐ŸŒˆ๐ŸŽธ๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŽถ

Oh! Very good question! I have a looper that I never use...

Kylir

Hi Scott. Any tips on using looper pedals? What's the difference between a looper pedal and looper station? Now that I'm on the topic of pedals, which pedals are essential? I have 2 combo amps with a lot of effects (Vox vt100x and a Fender Mustang 1 v2), but it is often overwhelming with so many. I thought maybe some simple pedals might be a better way to go. Thank you

Ray F

Happy birthday to you both. Must be pretty cool to share your birthday with your daughter :)

How do you keep track of all your songs? I know you record them, but what kind of notes do you keep with them to keep things straight, like your chord changes and whatnot? I ask because I'm starting to get quite a few pieces together and sometimes I blank on what my chord progressions were for the rhythm part (for example). I end up listening and figuring it back out, but curious as to what you do to save the hassle.

David Bowlby

Hi Scott - I have a hard time clapping in time and singing at the same time. I rarely, if ever sing aloud! Lately, I've been trying to play with a metronome but 1/8 beats screw me up when there's a 1/8th rest..then the song proceeds. Do you have any recommendations on how to get more comfortable with this or how to nail it every time? Also - it's my birthday! (and my daughter's, too! 2/22)

I second this one

Hi Scott, Is it possible to do a quick round-up of embellishments we could use to spice up our playing?

D'oh!-Ray-Me

In your experience are products like dexterity bands and hand exercisers like this one : https://www.amazon.com/Pack-Finger-Exerciser-All-Instruments/dp/B09C7KQ6ST/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=daddario+dexterity+band&qid=1676994634&sprefix=daddario+de%2Caps%2C113&sr=8-2 helpful ? If they are, where do they fit within a practice routine ?
