Ahmed asked about (1) making chord progressions more human, (2) jumping between CAGED pentatonic shapes while soloing, and (3) the elements involved in playing an epic solo.

Jeff asked for some tips on phrasing and soloing practice in general

Mark asked if it's easy to switch between plastic and nickel pickup covers

Tim had a question about sus 4 IV chords. And another about add9 and add11

Hey Scott

James T Upton

Is it easy to change pick up covers, ive heard changing plastic to nickel on dog ear p90's, for instance can be problematic in lining them up properly? any tips or experience of this Scott?

Mark Riley

Any tips on phrasing? And thoughts on playing along with a backing track versus playing along with a song (with vocals). I am trying to consider my playing as conversation (talk, listen, digest, talk)... and would appreciate any suggestions on how to develop that skill.

Hi Scott, I have a couple of questions, so please bear up with me: 1- Since chord progression is the first thing (in most cases) to start a song. How different chord progressions can be attached to a certain "human" feeling? For example, if you want to write a dreamy song. Which scale and progression you'd go for? this process of selecting scale and progression, I feel it's really different from a person to the other and I need to experiment more. But really when I feel like writing something the chord progression is one of the hardest part for me. Especially when I need to assert some feeling and that chord progression I end up with doesn't do that. 2- I've been watching the CAGED soloing series (almost 90% done), and I have to thank you, that chord/melody connection really clicked for me. But I've always wondered if in some cases one need to practice jumping from a shape to other while soloing, for example jumping from A shape to D shape or from any two different shapes how I do practice that? 3- last question :) related to CAGED soloing or soloing in general. Are these all killer solos we love to hear, just a combination between good phrasing, targeting chord tones and combing scales on top? Or there are other stuff that makes one solo, a killer solo? Thanks and sorry for the long questions

Hi Scott I have a question regarding "Shell chords". I found that this kind of chords omits 5th note. it use 1,3,7 for Maj7 and 1,b3,b7 for minor 7. Could you please explain more about these shell chords? Thank you!
