New here? Wondering where to start? Click here

Hi Everyone,

In this stream we talked a bit about technique - fingerpicking, holding a pick and getting comfortable with single note picking - but we also tackled some questions about how to actually use half diminished and fully diminished chords which led to a fun Django Reinhardt riff.

We also talked about why scale circles have to go clockwise when making chords.

Music theory is tricky. And teaching a thousand+ people all at once is tricky, too. MTFG 1 and 2 show full, one octave scales. The circle of fifths lesson shows every scale. But yes, I do not show every possible iteration of every scale all over the fingerboard. I've got it on my list to do some more complete scale lessons, but probably not "3 notes per string" as I don't use that method personally. But it might be fun to have a discussion about it.

Hi Ethan. Thank you for bringing this up. That is a good idea. I'm swamped with the combination of working on new material here plus right in the middle of packing up to move to Los Angeles. I'll put it on my list to do some release notes.

Similarly, as I've been watching these videos, I've noticed repeating questions with respect to practicing scales. You refer students to MTG Lessons 1 and 2. But MTG 1 and 2 only show fragments of scales. We're not taught the scales from high to low from head to bridge. To be well rounded we need to learn these scales. Someone taught you. I respectfully agree with your views , regarding CAGED, but then in other lessons regarding chords and phrases within Cage shapes you need us to find the chord tones within the shapes but we haven't been taught the underlying complete scale matched to the CAGED shape to find the notes. Also, not learning the scales, up and down fret board makes me feel trapped in the CAGED shapes and pentatonic box position. Three note per string and more comprehensive scale lessons, please

This is the third time I've heard students question E to C as minor 6 in the Intervals lesson. It's not explained well in the lesson, you may want to consider adding release notes to the lesson
