Hi Everyone,
I've been trying to figure out how to meet everyone's needs as effectively (and efficiently) as possible. I get a lot of questions on here and I LOVE answering questions, but I don't think its very effective for me to go around typing away for each person's questions. Office Hours is an attempt to create a place where I can answer everyone's questions in the most public, accessible way possible.
My first OFFICE HOURS Livestream will be this Thursday the 24th at 1pm PST - join live if you can or post your questions here and I'll answer them on Thursday!
I'll still be in the community forum checking out your homework and chiming in here and there, but I thought there should be a place where people can ask pressing questions and I can maximize the value of the answering those questions by making a space just for those questions.
I'll start the stream by hunting around my Patreon for general questions from folks, then I'll tackle the questions you post right here on this post, or on the community forum post, which will let you add audio, pictures, or even a video.
For now, I'm going to treat OFFICE HOURS as a free-for-all. Ask questions about whatever you like and I'll do my best to give it due attention. If this becomes a regular thing, I may have to add rules or restrictions, but for now ask about anything you like!

PS if you perchance read this: I would love some instruction on playing bass and melody at the same time and in particular irregular bass patterns (if that makes any sense).

I don’t know how much of it is from my connective tissue disorder (and resulting weakness) and how much of it is just shitty technique or whatever. I have tried to apply info from many tutorials on barre chords, including yours. Any ideas?

2020-10-03 22:46:50 +0000 UTCOops. Sent a whole message and it got deleted. I was saying that I've confused a few people by adding the shape names on the Major and Minor scale lessons. Thats something that will make sense a little further on. I have lessons about Triads coming out soon and some lessons after that that will help you clearly make sense of the CAGED shape names. Thanks for being here and thanks for studying with me. Stick around a little longer and I'm certain this stuff will begin to make more sense.

However, when I try to figure out and/or assign your great explanations and erase old teaching, I become very frustrated. I am trying to do this journey with only your directions. Your videos, reviews, homework, and PDFs are GREAT. I need help trying to see where are these SHAPES! I need Help here. So far I understand and have developed drills for knowing the fretboard, major/minor formulas, Intervals somewhat, but Octave Shapes-NO, Circle of Fifths theory, not finished homework yet, but I thought that if I kept going I would understand better. BUT i am not. I practice playing the scales but not understanding A, G, E, D shapes. When I joined I followed your Video on UTube, but now I,m getting lost. I have not made comments because I am not at a place of confidence and should be able to understand where and why a SHAPE exist where you point to in to Practice homework. Please Help me. Thank you in advance.

I am STILL overcoming some pretty dogmatic musical upbringing, so it helps. Just having fun with music is a tall order. The new tune I asked about is metamorphosing before my eyes, but I’ll see if I can get something semi-nailed down and submit a voice memo.

2020-09-26 03:46:01 +0000 UTCI am working on a chord progression which is primarily C minor and G minor, but also contains a D7, Cm7, Bb, A7 ‘turnaround’ back to the verse again, giving it a bluesy feel. I would say it is in G minor or C Dorian, but for the ‘wildcard’ chords that fall outside of the key. I should probably send you a voice memo. I still suck at playing it, so we’ll see how it goes. But is there a possibility you can set a different time to accomodate maybe maximum people across different geography. I am in India and 1 PM PST way too late during the night for me to join it live. Any suggestions?
