Hi Everyone,
If you've been following my CAGED Soloing series, you know whats going on. In this installment, we'll be working through how to solo over a I-IV progression using all five CAGED shapes. The idea here is to give you a few bite-sized ways to practice soloing over chord progressions.
This is the first in the I-IV series and we're focused on the C shape.

2020-09-03 04:27:09 +0000 UTCThat is exactly it! CAGED isn't just about chord shapes being transposable - its about the whole key being transposable! You're thinking exactly right. If E is the I shape then A will be the IV shape. If A is the I shape then D will be the IV shape. So dope, right?

2020-09-03 01:44:42 +0000 UTCScott- so...... Is another way to approach this is to know that if the I is a C shape, then the IV is an F Shape ( no such thing so the E Shape is up one half step)? I understand to know/hit the chord tones. But does my line of thinking work? If I am in the key of G maj - the I is a G shape and the IV is a C Shape, etc.? This would be a major breakthrough for me- especially playing blues I, IV, V. It would make a ton of sense.

2020-08-27 00:33:40 +0000 UTCHey Scott, why is there "2 4 6" written next to where it says " IV Chord/ A minor Chord? shouldn't it be "4 6 1" for the notes of the IV chord or am I missing something. I see you have this on the I-III progression sheets as well. thanks for the help!

There are a lot of these CAGED Soloing videos and more to come - settle in, get comfortable, and take small steps. Each progression and shape you get to know will make the next one even easier to learn.

Question, hitting the chord notes on the IV chord is like using the E shaped major pentatonic scale except only hitting the 1 3 5 notes right? edit- just discovered your other caged solo videos. I have a lot to catch up on! thx
