Hey everyone,
I was just cranking on the latest video and realized no one has seen the new editing setup yet, so here it is. I've never been able to use two external monitors at the same time, and let me tell you - it feels fantastic. Oh, you wanted to zoom in on that internal memo from 1978 while also looking at that cigarette commercial starring The Flintstones? It's all there at the same time. What a dream.
On a personal note, I was recently in Colorado moving my parents out of their house and into a place with fewer stairs and ice-prone driveways. My parents collected a lot of items over the years and they ended up giving about 90% of everything away. For my part, I found it very surreal to go through my childhood belongings like old chemistry tests and posters and a corkboard full of movie stubs I couldn't remember. Not to get all schmaltzy or anything, but I did get some pretty serious emotional whiplash from whittling everything down into a couple of cardboard boxes.
If you were absolutely FORCING me to tie an unrelated story into the ethos of Climate Town, I would say the trip home reminded me how much more important the present is despite the past having purchased a lot of real estate in your brain. That and the stuff you own ends up owning yo-- wait, that's ... Fight Club*? I don't want to look it up, but I think it's Fight Club.
OKAY! If you are in the Denver area or are willing to travel, I would like to give someone my childhood pool table. The short story is, my grandma Phyllis gave me this table when her basement flooded in 2003 during Christmas dinner, and I proceeded to blast pool balls around for years without getting much better. At some point in 2010 I saw this video online and decided I wanted to get good at pool, which led me to get my first video editing job with a pool company which led me to hosting YouTube videos which led me to starting Climate Town.
So! If anyone wants this table and will make even a vague commitment to playing pool on it, I would love to donate it. DM me or something and let's make it happen. You'd probably need 3 strong people and a truck or large vehicle to transport it to wherever you're going because it's made of extremely heavy slate. The slate comes apart into three pieces, but you'll want all 3 strong people on each piece of slate because they're super got dang heavy. No worries if no one wants it, I'll donate it to some youth group or something, I just thought this community has given so much to me, maybe someone out there would like a pool table.
Okay, back to the edit. Thank you for everything including the new editing setup.
Much love,
Rollie
*When I was about 12, my mother took me to a Blockbuster Video (for the Gen Z audience, think of Blockbuster like if Netflix had a popup show and gave you physical MP4 files that you had to return in a few days). Anyway, my mom took me to Blockbuster and I saw Flight Club on the shelf. I really genuinely thought it was a sort of action movie about a young scrappy soap salesman who discovers his passion for boxing and maybe proves to Helena Bonham Carter that he's a big tough guy. It was not. I remember loving the movie, but secretly wishing there had been more punching. I think it holds up, but I honestly couldn't tell ya.
