What I'm working on - August 2025

Hi Patrons! I have several updates and anti-updates this month.

Call me extremely fickle, but I have sadly lost interest in the Bring It On project. Maybe the Step Up video underperforming was demotivating, or maybe it's that I watched all the Bring It On movies and didn't feel that strongly about them, or maybe it's that even my opinions on the musical felt too tepid and rambly to condense into a decent script, but I just could not bring myself to sit down and write anything about the series. Given that I did watch all the movies and rewatch the musical, maybe I'll record an off-the-cuff video just for you guys giving my thoughts on all.

The good news is, I'm onto the next thing! First on the docket is a sort of mini video I'm cooking up on a whim: I recently saw news on Twitter that Riverdale's KJ Apa will be starring as Jimmy Stewart in a biopic. This immediately sounded fishy to me. I had the strangest feeling that said biopic would be a Dennis Quaid Reagan-style conservative Christian B movie. And lo and behold, after doing some research, I believe this is exactly the case. I thought this was an interesting thought process/rabbithole, and decided to write and record a short recap. I just filmed it yesterday, and since it's short (maybe 10 minutes when edited?) it shouldn't take me long to finish. I might call it 'How to spot a Christian movie' or something. Look forward to that hopefully in the next week or so!

In terms of longer videos, I'm currently watching/researching for a deep dive of an extremely evil British reality series I've been aware of since college: Secret Eaters. This show is the absolute zenith of English fatphobia. Each episode, contestants who want to lose weight are filmed and followed by (supposed) private investigators for a week, with the intention of comparing what they think they eat to what they actually eat. Believe me when I tell you it's some of the most unbelievable television I've ever watched in terms of its nastiness, its ridiculous characters, and utterly stupid segments. There are only 22 episodes total and I'm almost through watching the final season.

I plan to basically go through the format, the segments, the characters, and discuss all the reasons I think it's both very funny and very evil. It's just an absurdly mean show that I like to hate watch with my friends, and I haven't seen anyone on YouTube discuss its issues. I don't know exactly how long or in-depth it'll be yet, but I'm hoping I can keep it in the 30-50 minute range and get it out either this month or early next month.

Here's one of our kooky characters, who likes to say things like "Your daily cup of tea contains X amount of calories-- over the course of one year, that's the equivalent of these 100000 ice cream sundaes!"

In general, I'm trying to follow my instincts more when it comes to videos. I know I've planned and canceled a couple projects lately, and I don't mean to disappoint anyone, it's just that I think I'm better off acknowledging when something isn't working and trying to move on to something more energizing than to force myself to slog through it. Similarly, with stuff like the Jimmy Stewart video, I'm trying to indulge my little whims more when it comes to video making, because if it means I can put out short videos in between my big behemoths, that would be nice for everyone!

In between all of the above, I'm planning to record a Patreon Bollywood ramble soon, and maybe a Bring It On ramble as mentioned. Thanks so much for your support this month!

I remember watching Supersize vs Superskinny and You Are What You eat with my FAMILY for some reason, they must have rebroadcast it on PBS or something

I for one love following whims and dropping projects to avoid burnout! Also, new icebreaker question for parties: which malignant british reality tv show did you watch like all of on youtube when you were in school? mine was supersize vs superskinny, similarly evil but tried to hide it more

Yeah I feel bad for Apa stans who were excited about this online 😭 I don't think it's going to be what they think it'll be

god i wish kj would do a normal, good movie. i haven't watched a thing he's been in since riverdale, and i was actually curious about the jimmy stewart biopic, but i will NOT be fooled into watching a conservative republican christian movie.
