What I'm working on - January 2025

Hello Patrons, and happy insurrection-iversary to all who observe. It's a new year, and I'm trying to get serious about my video roster for 2025.

I've been putting off Dante's Cove for a minute since I was busy with the Taylor Swift video, holidays, and job hunting, but I finally watched season 3 in the last few days and should be scripting + filming soon. I was initially a little worried that I wouldn't have much to say about season 3, because it was feeling blander to me than season 2. But the story took a turn towards the end of the season, and now I feel I have something rather meaty to discuss vis-Γ -vis the development of Kevin and Ambrosius. Unfortunately, I can't say I was happy with the show's conclusion. But more on that later, of course.

In terms of main channel videos, now that I'm done with some of my big, years-in-the-making projects, I'd love to do some chill Lifetime videos this year. It's one of my favorite types of videos to make, and they seem to do well on my channel. Ever since making my Lifetime mommy and daddy videos, I've meant to revisit that theme with other recurring Lifetime subjects. The ideas I have so far (some being suggestions from my audience) are nannies, 'At 17,' prom, pregnancy, husbands, teachers, stalkers, friends, 'I Killed,' and baby theft (which naturally has some overlap with 'nannies.')

I think what I'm going to tackle first are HUSBANDS. I did the routine from my mommy/daddy videos by searching the keyword "husband" on the Lifetime Movie Club, and the results did not disappoint. This is one of the most prolific subgenres (at least on the LMC), and seems adequately entertaining/diverse. In fact, there are almost TOO many of them. I'm currently watching the first few minutes of each one to determine if any are boring enough to skip.

In terms of other projects on my roster for this year, as I've said before, I'd love to make a review of 9-1-1 season 8, but obviously I can't do that until the entire season has aired, so that would likely be a summer project. I have a couple vague ideas that have been floating around my mind lately: No promises, but maybe videos about the Step Up and/or Bring It On franchises? Other than that, I'm kind of intentionally keeping my options open. Some of my best video topics come to me by chance when I'm out of ideas, so I'd like to allow for plenty of that this year.

For Patreon-exclusives, I was thinking it might be fun to do a watch-through commentary of the movie The Kissing Booth sometime soon. I know, I know, I'm always talking about the goddamn Kissing Booth. But because it's so dear to me and I practically know every line, I feel like it would be fun to go through the entire thing and point out every single thing I find funny and why.

I also have this wild idea for an unscripted Patreon vid where I try to actually outline and write my own Lifetime movie screenplay on camera. Is that anything??

I'm going to try to work on the final Dante's Cove video and the Lifetime husbands video concurrently, so hopefully both will be out soon.

Happy new year and thanks for your support this month!!

haha I feel like I maybe have heard of this?? although I might be mixing it up with a weird French Dracula musical I learned about in French class. I'll try to check it out!

Dear Jane, excited about your chill Lifetime vids as always. I didn't know where to put suggestions, but this made me feel crazy to watch, and I thought, as a musical fan yourself, you would also like to indulge in the crazy rabbit hole that is "tanz der vampire". its a german musical adaptation that premiered in Austria and is an adaptation of the roman polanski film "The Fearless Vampire Killers". sorry if you already know of this; we couldn't find much conversation about this online save a 5 minute part of a maven of the eventide video. anyway, it was very crazy. you may be interested. It was like a eurotrash phantom, but with meatloaf song and total eclipse of the heart as the theme. the main fl's main trait was being in a bathtub. and it was quite gay in a confusing way. ends with everyone being vampires?? i would love to see you do a video on this bc there was also a broadway version where it was totally slapstick--didn't watch that one. but even if you don't do a vid, PLEASE watch this its INSANE. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOzoxa2hNcI&list=PLyEyVV-c8uXYyrR-XRKcRy5JS0LOd3Gzr&index=1

Omg you’re such a busy bee! 🐝 I’m excited! But don’t sweat!

Linda Espinosa

Yeah after watching the movie i looked it up, and then laughed really hard when i found out about the unicorn and how the movie decided to reference that lmao

('drink slay love' is actually an adaptation of a YA novel with the same title from 2012 lol)

I'll add my voice to the chorus saying that we'd love a video where you try to come up with your own Lifetime script.

Steven Clark

I would love seeing your version of a Lifetime movie! I trust your screenplay will feature Vivica A. Fox showing up with her "Looks like you picked the WRONG ____", among other Lifetime conventions.

Finn

Would love if you used maybe a randomized prompt generator and tried to write a Lifetime movie based on that. Bonus if you cast it since you're pretty well-acquainted with their usual suspects!!

andie bansil

oh my god yes please write your own lifetime movie!! you are one of the worlds leading scholars on lifetime originals and it would be an act of courageous and daring research to do your own take on the genre!!

Lee Cheeseman

No that's a good one!! It's always weird to find a supernatural lifetime movie because it feels so off base for them. I've always meant to watch Drink Slay Love because it looks insane lol (I assume it's a Vampire Academy ripoff? maybe?) and of course Killer Under the Bed is such a wacky example. I'll keep it in mind as a niche.

Jane Mulcahy

i am into you making your own lifetime movie, yes

nei vilde

for a lifetime video, i don't know if this is anything, but you could do all the lifetime supernatural movies. i don't know how many there are though, I've found 3 total, so maybe not enough for a video, but like there's forever 16, sea change and drink slay love. at least i think they're all lifetime, i am not sure. they're all from the same time, i think lifetime was like we need total into the teen supernatural market lmao. also they all feel like a tv show pilot for some reason. anyway, feel free to look into it if you desire.
