As I say in this video, it's honestly kind of embarrassing for me how many of you guessed it. But this just goes to show that we are becoming a bonded hivemind. Cute! And it's good to know that some of you are fans of this show. I'm excited to hear your opinions on my opinions and so on.
I'm thinking of making a little post-video Patreon talkback of sorts in the next couple days with a Q&A to make up for the lack of BTS content during the production of this video. If you have any questions, either related to the video or not, feel free to ask them here! I'll answer just about anything as long as it's not weird or invasive. Getting this video done feels like a milestone, so I think it would be fun to have a chat about it.

It's extremely ridiculous and the later seasons are just even more so. It's basically like watching a soap opera except Woke™ in the best way possible.

I can't say I'm loving the style or writing as much as a Grey's Anatomy or something but it's definitely An Entry in the genre. I do love that it has Anupam Kher! I know him from Bollywood

2024-10-19 06:26:41 +0000 UTCugh i love this so much! i've never watched 911 and don't plan to cuz i just really can't get behind the whole cop element of it but this was a wonderful little introduction to make all the 911 posting my beloved tumblr mutuals are doing make more sense. also your discussion of buddie reminded me a lot of nandor and guillermo from what we do in the shadows (one of my favorite shows of all time that i also hate with a burning passion.) both the characters are canonically queer and pairing them up would be a really wonderful direction to take the story but for some reason the writers have been almost intentionally dodging it for the past few seasons. it doesn't even feel like they're trying to do a slow burn, they're kind of just giving us...nothing. my theory is that the show is so bad now that keeping people on the hook about whether or not they're gonna be cannon is one of the only ways they can maintain consistent viewership (though now that the show is officially on its last season i really hope they just go for it.) honestly so many of the show's current problems with characterization and overall plot incoherence would be solved if they just put these two crazy guys together. if you haven't seen what we do in the shadows you should definitely check it out, it's a cable show so it has that same distinctly network tv vibe while also having a strong streaming presence. i know i just complained about how bad it is but as long as you avoid s4 and only watch the first half of s5 you'll be fine. also in my opinion, the things that make those sections of the show so bad are just as fascinating as what makes the good parts of the show so good. q&a question: you've mentioned quite a lot that you went to film school and really love movies and i was just curious what about the medium of film specifically speaks to you. i personally am kind of a film-anti, everyone in my personal life is constantly annoyed by my hot take that theatre is the superior medium for storytelling and that most good movies would work better as plays, so i just wanted to know what you love about them since you almost certainly disagree. feel free to take this as an excuse to just rant about how magical and unique the medium of cinema is cuz i think you'd have some really good takes about that.

This video was much-needed accompaniment as I assembled a book shelf and finally found out what the fuck was up with all those Bee ads I kept seeing around. I know now. Speaking of baffling and contextless ads, I was caught completely off-guard by the pre-show Tracker jumpscare because it’s been haunting me through my podcasts for a couple of weeks now. If you think the 9-1-1 promos are hilarious in the way they cut together robotic sounding soundbytes, I really hope you get a chance to hear the bewildering editing choices they made for that audio-only promo. If this is how they hope to recapture a younger demographic, I don’t think it’s going to work out. Then again, it was so awkwardly spliced and badly performed that I was tempted to watch it for myself, so maybe they’re onto something. I do have to admit that as soon as you started introducing and describing Eddie, I immediately snapped towards the screen to see if he fit the Infamous Ryan Murphy’s Dream Guy mold, and lo and behold… every time. Every time there is a built, 20-30 year old man with quaffed dark hair and very little interiority. The wheel turns anew. Also, your hivemind theory might yet bear fruit— I snapped at eddie that I would marry Shannon myself moments before you said much the same. Real sees real. Thanks again for helping me build my bookshelf, and congrats on finishing up this behemoth of a project!

I realize they brought up some conflict after that, but generally I just prefer a slow burn with a lot of tension and will they won't they in my tv romances. and I have heard that about the actor and it does put me off a little lol. I guess it doesn't matter too much anymore since the show is almost over 🤷♀️ my dream spinoff is a UK 9-1-1. 9-9-9!

Rob Lowe is the main character and gets most of the screentime, even though he is by far the weakest link. Also, one of the actors in the aforementioned gay ship has since revealed himself to be a hardcore zionist, so that may sour your enjoyment. Anyway I've heard rumors of a third spin-off in the works so it seems you won't have any shortage of 911 content to pick through on your podcast (which you should absolutely go for).

2024-10-11 20:34:19 +0000 UTCHeh, I knew it! I gave up watching 911 halfway through season 4 but this might be the sign to get back into it. Regarding buddie... I shipped it, but also realized it was a huge long shot. Like you, I was quite shocked to hear they had the spine to make one character of the ship bisexual and put him in an honest-to-god gay relationship, which is far, far more than Teen Wolf and Supernatural were willing to give us (even if it took 100 episodes). I'll admit I don't ship buddie as much as I used to, largely because I feel like they missed their window. If they do end up getting together, I'll have to ask "Why only now?" (because FOX wouldn't let them, but still). I'm not an anti, I think that converting the long-running platonic bond into a romantic one would probably work, but I think the narratively better option is letting them stay friends and letting Buck continue the romance he's currently in.
