Yeah, it's admittedly a bit rough of a quest. You do only need a couple of the requested items to start off, as you'll get everything else by trading with everyone. I tried grabbing every clothing item I came across and was unable to find what I was looking for, it became so cumbersome I just stopped. It's been awhile have you changed the gauntlet/maze of item exchanges?
