The only power a word has is the power YOU give it, and your feelings are not mine or anyone elses problem. Drop whatever slurs you want, all it does is make you look like an ass, which is exactly what is happening in the comic, nobody here is defending Nigel, everyone realizes he is acting like an ass. And you making such a big deal and trying to highroad everyone else is just making you look like an ass yourself. It's just a word, 6 letters, some squiggles on a page, nothing more.

2023-07-20 17:42:37 +0000 UTCNigel has been constantly insulting to the majority of this comic's main cast and some of the things he's said especially to Luna have been far more offensive and demeaning than this where he's basically calling Leo stupid (and in all honestly Leo isn't the sharpest tool in the shed) so here we could say Nigel is being honest albeit in a very rude manner but that's to be expected coming from Nigel and I also wouldn't be surprised if Nigel says something far nastier to Leo later on and in truth I kind of like that Nigel isn't afraid to back talk to someone who is easily twice his size and far stronger. Nigel is actually very brave in this regard, perhaps this was some of the potential that Luna saw?

That would have been the end of it.Taking into account this being a fantasy world, any nonsense word could be used and framed as a terrible insult without needing to use existing words, especially slurs. But again, I merely asked for a consideration to be made, not demanding anything be changed or slating Zummeng for its use. This will be the last I say on this.

It will either help to make his potential downfall more believable and/or his redemption that much more satisfying. It creates a baseline for his growth as a character. Yes, it's potentially offensive, that is the point. If you can't see that and you're getting so dead set on attacking the use of the word without looking at the meaning behind its use, might mean you got a little growing up to do. To Zummeng, it's your story, write it as you see fit, this guy is obviously the minority here

If Zummemng doesn't want to, then that's not my call and I can sit with that. But I will ask that slurs be considered if they're actually necessary when I see them being used in a way that's not being reclaimed by someone who's targeted by the slur.

Originally, "developmentally retarded" was a medical term with a precise meaning. It became a slur. "Special needs" was coined to replace it. It became a slur. Now it's "non-neuro-typical". Bets on how long untils "non-typical" is a slur? Yes, calling people names is bad. Some of us learned that in preschool. Some of us never learned it. This is fiction; the actions are consistent with the character. Or are you the sort of person who calls "Huck Finn" racist because it has "the N word" (shudder)?
