I'm reminded of The Land Before Time "-and you'll always miss her, but she'll always be with you, as long as you remember the things she taught you. In a way, you'll never be apart, for we are a part of each other" but its just not enough, it still hurts. You've brought me to tears, a testament to the quality of this story.

Even If they come back alive, there is going to be a lot of growing up, and the Mira or Chili who return will not be the same as the Mira or Chili that are raving about those burgers or complaining about what a jerk Leo is. Luna is coming to terms with the pain she set herself up for when she adopted these two.

This page I think gives me a little hope that they're wrong. She says "This may be the very last evening..." and to me that means there's a chance that they might be together again which therefore she'd have to be around to do that. Whatever is going to happen the next day is going to be terrible I'm sure, but I'm not writing Luna off the mortal coil just yet.
