There's absolutely something between them, particularly evidenced by him looking back as he leaves. If anything, this is probably the connection that he's never had before, never ALLOWED himself to have since he's been exiled(?) from his home. So yes, he's gone for now. But I predict he'll be back. Also of COURSE the greedy owner only understands money, never wondering WHY Chris might have forked over so much cash for one night, simply thinking him dumb for doing so.
