What to do...

You may be wondering where all my updates have gone.  I have continued to work on the comics I've been posting previews of, but I have temporarily paused uploading them because... I discovered that someone(s?) is using a scraper to take all my content here and post it publicly.  This is both unfair to me, who needs this income for basic living needs, and to you, dear Patrons, who support me.

I've been trying to figure out the best way around this, and I will hopefully have a workable solution soon to get that sweet content to you without too much trouble, while also avoiding scrapers stealing everything.  If you have any tips, I'm all ears.

Stay tuned for more updates coming soon!

hmmm maybe their is a way to track these. you might have some one make issue and send to the patreon. one one gets 00, another 01 and if they post 01 you know who did it cause they got that number.

One method I've seen, at least to thwart Kemono, is to post the content on a secured Drop Box or similar cloud service, and send the password via Patreon's messaging service. The actual updates on Patreon would only be an announcement of the content being available, possibly with teaser or low-rez image.

Maybe you could also try offering other patron benefits, besides just images. I support another creator on Patreon, and they don't just post images of their work, they also post little commentaries - updates on how far they're getting on their current projects, retrospectives on their previous projects, that kind of behind-the-scenes thing. (that creator is a game developer, so that sort of thing might not be suitable for your work, but it's something to think about) I don't know, maybe there could be other kinds of updates you could give on Patreon that are harder to steal.

One method of avoiding this would be to find a way to block the people who steal the updates. Perhaps the updates could be presented in a format that is open for any patron to edit, but you can monitor who is editing the updates. That way, if anyone copies an update, you can see who it was who copied it, and you can then block or ban the patron from your patreon account, to stop them from doing it again. Of course, that would only work if the person stealing your work actually is one of your patrons. And anyway, I can understand if you wouldn't want to leave your updates open for anyone to edit however they liked... Another method might be to upload your updates in a format that can't be publicly reposted anywhere - not PNGs or JPEGs or anything like that. Or uploading them in some kind of service that can't be copied from - I think someone suggested dropbox, or some system like that... I'm afraid I'm not very knowledeable about code and file formats and things like that - I'm not even sure how scrapers work. You should try and talk to the technical support teams at Patreon - see if they have any suggestions or methods that could help. I'm sure they get users having these kinds of problems all the time.

Damn... Sorry to hear this ;_; You work so hard, and your content is so good. I do hope you'll find a solution to this problem.

I'm really sorry to hear that. It sucks that someone is taking your content like that. I wish that I knew of a solution that could help. The only thing that comes to mind is perhaps messaging posts to your patrons depending on the tier. But, I feel that might be more unnecessary work on your end. I hope that something gets sorted out soon. You have a lot of people who love your work and want to support you the right way. 💕

ChocolateCookieCream

That really, really sucks and I'm sorry someone's doing that >=(

As an temporary solution: sending updates as messages to patrons and each person/group gets an image that has some identifying string embedded. depending on the software used there is an quality loss involved to remove the watermark

My goodness I’m so sorry to hear you’re dealing with someone(s?) doing that! Like come on, we’re here to support you, not steal. So it sucks to see someone would even stoop that low to do that :/ I wish I had suggestions to give but I’m not familiar with safeguards for Patreon I admit. But I’m hoping you’re able to find some form of solution and solace soon ❤️
