Page 273 Process

I start out with the "thumbnail", usually drawn in blue in Photoshop. Why blue? Maybe because at art school I was trained to draw the under drawing in non-photo blue pencil, because you can ink over it and it won't be picked up by photocopiers and can be easily edited out of scans. It also makes it easier to squint and let the picture blur together so I get get a general idea of the composition instead of focusing too much on tight details.
Then I do the "tight" sketch with black, and this is what I trace over for my inks. Sometimes even the tight sketch is pretty loose, I tend to go tighter/more detailed on areas I don't trust myself to translate easily with little reference. (Detailed action shots, very specific emotional expressions, etc, all tend to need a lot of attention and detail that I want to make sure carry across.)
After this, it's on to "inking", which I do in Clip Sudio Paint (formerly Manga Studio!)
