The Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge
Added 2023-06-23 10:15:01 +0000 UTCOne question that came to mind while working on this story was this: has anyone actually fallen from the bridge in recent years? As far as I can tell, the answer is no. There are a few news stories about people falling over once on the island, and having to be brought back to the mainland by helicopter (getting an injured person back across the bridge is just too difficult)... but as far as I can tell nobody has fallen from the bridge itself.
Considering the bridge sees nearly half a million visitors each year, that’s a pretty good safety record. While it may look precarious, the current Carrick-a-Rede bridge is anything but.

2023-06-23 14:22:04 +0000 UTCI remember sitting at my grandparents' place as a kid and watching a video of my grandfather crossing the bridge - my grandmother filmed him from land, and refused to follow him. He teased her a bit about it. The year he died I actually happened to visit the bridge on what would have been his 91st birthday. Still have the ticket.
