Midnight Screenings - The Iron Giant

We had duck and cover in my school in Washington state. It was the mid-ninties, they were for earthquakes. Our history teacher made us all feel very safe by telling us that, in the event of an earthquake, we would be pinned under our desks by falling rubble!

For me, the iron giant was "bored. bored. bored. so bored. OH GOD MY FEELS."

You had "Duck and Cover" drills in the early 90's?

The dream sequence was new... the other new scene was the brief conversation between Dean and Annie in the diner, just before Dean buys the tractor.

I remember when this debuted I was working with an ex-Disney animator who made us all go see this movie. It was very poorly advertised by Warner Brothers. They'd had a big flop the year before with Quest for Camelot and were basically getting out of the animated feature business. They channeled most of their advertising dollars to the Pokemon Movie. The ads they did have were set to "Rock Me Like A Hurricane" with the Giant saying "Rock!" from the movie. It did the movie absolutely no favors and probably had most adults going "that looks dumb" or "I'm not taking by eight year old to see that!".
