There's a lot of material out there about Houdini - a great deal of which touches on the mystery of his death. Was it a punch to his stomach that killed him, or appendicitis? If you want to delve into the mystery, I recommend this blog, which has a real wealth of detail, including accounts of the fateful meeting between Houdini and Whitehead.
It even includes what, looking back, seems like a terribly fateful quote from Houdini in his final days: "I let a college kid punch me in the stomach, and he caught me wrong, and it's killing me." He was, perhaps, more right than he realised!
