Hello everyone,
tomorrow is my grandpa's birthday and I had the feeling that drawing some of the animals he likes or buying him a t-shirt with a custom design of my art on it would not suffice yet another year - I wanted to create something for his and my grandma's heart in such a tough year we have experienced so far. I wanted to show a brighter time and bring a smile and some warmth back to them.
Personally I think remembering beautiful moments that you experienced with your family, your beloved ones, give strength and energy. Looking back might not always be an option, but looking back at a good childhood whenever I was with my beloved grandparents sure is important to me and it will always stay that way. I love them with all of my heart and wanted to show that in this piece.
Time is running, it sure is passin by way too fast sometimes and after what feels like just a little amount of days, suddenly the 6 year old chubby little girl became a 20 year old, young woman who now is physically stronger than her family, who had to be strong when raising her. This is a way of change we barely even notice but that is incedible once it's mentioned. Back then, I was a joyful yet shy young girl without many friends. I used to stay at my grandparents' place whenever I felt sad and needed company. Especially my grandpa was there for me and did so many things that I am grateful for. He accompanied me when I was going to my martial arts lessons, he was by my side when I was oing somewhere new and did everything for me just to make me happy. He is such a wonderful, kind, funny and selfless person, I feel like I've never really shown him how much I love him and how grateful I am to have him.
A thing we also used and still sometimes do is watching the old anime Heidi, the girl living in the alps. That is a habit that brought us together so many evenings, I can't even remember. This is why I chose to draw us walking in a scene that was inspired of that anime, using the same soft colours and blurring it out a little in the background. Us together, we are the family here, showing me as young and old, just to show what we've been through and that I am still there for them, just like they are for me <3
In that case: Happy Birthday, Grandpa. I love you and I am grateful that you're always there for me.
