World's First Traitor System (407)

Chapter 407 - No Regrets

During a video call, Fan Li said, “Your Majesty, in ancient legends, the dragon had nine sons. The creature in this drawing is called Qiuniu, the dragon’s firstborn.”

Fan Li pointed at a drawing, explaining, “Qiuniu, born of a dragon and an ox, has the head of a dragon, the body of a snake, and is yellow in color, with horns. It loves music and has a gentle nature, not prone to violence or aggression.”

Xiang Ning, like a curious child, listened attentively.

Unfurling the second drawing, Fan Li continued, “This is Yazi, the dragon's second son. It has the body of a jackal and the head of a dragon, born of a dragon and a jackal. Legend says Yazi is bloodthirsty, violent, and has a fierce temper, skilled in battle. The old saying, ‘A kindness will be repaid, a grudge will be avenged,’ refers to Yazi.”

“Then there’s Chaofeng, the dragon’s third son… Pulao, the dragon’s fourth son… Suanni, the dragon’s fifth son…”

Fan Li meticulously described the dragon’s nine sons.

He had no choice.

Shi Jingtang first unleashed the Bixi to wreak havoc in Great Chu, then he summoned the remaining eight sons of the dragon. The entire kingdom was in an uproar!

Xiang Ning, as the Chu Emperor, even trapped in a foreign land, had the right to know what was happening.

Listening to Fan Li, Xiang Ning’s face paled.

“Such terrifying beasts, and they’re all within my Great Chu?”

Fan Li shook his head.

“Your Majesty, those in Xiongzhou are not real dragon sons; they are mechanical beasts. But each mechanical beast likely contains the soul of a young dragon son. Their strength is not to be underestimated; each is at least at the first rank of the Great Vehicle realm.”

Eight dragon sons, stationed in Xiongzhou, their influence reached everywhere, even Fan Li felt immense pressure.

If all eight were unleashed at once, Great Chu, if it wasn't destroyed completely, would certainly face immense devastation.

“Can you handle this?” Xiang Ning’s voice trembled. She couldn't imagine how Fan Li could possibly defend against beasts the size of mountains.

“I… I should be able to.”

Frankly, this was an exaggeration.

He couldn't mobilize the forces in the Great Jin kingdom for several years, not without risking premature exposure.

With the Fan Clan’s resources in Great Chu alone, he might be able to handle one or two mechanical beasts.

But facing all eight simultaneously?

Even if he sacrificed all two hundred thousand garrison troops, it wouldn't be enough!
Moreover, behind the eight mechanical beasts stood Shi Jingtang, whose cultivation was unfathomable!

Did this feel like an ant trying to shake a tree?

Fan Li smiled wryly.

“You’re lying; you can’t handle it.”

Han Yue suddenly spoke.

Fan Li and Xiang Ning were both startled. Xiang Ning’s eyes reddened.

“At a time like this, you’re still lying to me?”

She wasn’t truly angry at Fan Li, merely feeling guilty. She was the Emperor of Great Chu, yet trapped in a foreign land, leaving all the burdens on Fan Li’s shoulders.

“I… I’ll find a way.” Fan Li smiled awkwardly, glancing at Han Yue, confused as to why she would expose him.

Han Yue met his gaze, she was calm like the full moon in the night sky, unmoved by the wind and clouds.

“I can help you,” she whispered.

“Really?”

Fan Li was overjoyed, but also confused. Han Yue was currently confined within the Pure Land, unable to leave. How could she help him?

“Really.”

Han Yue nodded firmly.

“Do whatever you need to do. I will assist you with all my power.”

Filled with questions, Fan Li ended the call.

On his desk were nine drawings.

Besides the Bixi, the other eight were covered in notes – the names of the dragon sons, their origins, legends, characteristics, and other intelligence.

The elegant handwriting belonged to Wu Gang.

Fan Li studied the drawings one by one, completely absorbed, even forgetting to eat or sleep.

Days turned into nights, and ten days quickly passed.

“Master.”

At some point, Wu Gang appeared beside Fan Li.

“Ah?”

Fan Li looked up, feeling dizzy, as if he were about to collapse.

“Master, I have sinned.”

The woman knelt before him, bowed her head, like a child who had done something wrong.

“What is it? Please, stand up and tell me.”

Fan Li tried to help her up. But as he stood, he felt his legs weaken, and he stumbled, falling sideways.

Thump!

He didn’t fall hard, but Wu Gang was startled.

“Master, it’s all my fault.” Hert face was full of guilt, as she carefully helped him up. “I shouldn't have asked you to help me gather the souls of the dragon’s sons, I’ve caused you so much trouble.”

To gather the souls of Qiuniu, Yazi, Chaofeng, Pulao, Suanni, Bi’ani, Fuxi, and Chiwen.

Wu Gang had made this request after obtaining the Bixi’s soul.

He couldn't refuse her, so he agreed. But after gathering intelligence and planning, he realized it was practically an impossible task.

Among the dragon’s nine sons, the Bixi had the strongest defenses. But there was always a trade-off; its attack power was the weakest.

Even the weakest Bixi’s soul had been obtained through sheer luck. How could the other eight be any easier?

The more difficult it became, the more Wu Gang blamed herself.

“It’s alright, you don’t have to be like this.”

Fan Li looked at Wu Gang, usually so calm and composed, now kneeling before him, her head bowed like a child who’d failed an exam, on the verge of tears.

He couldn’t bear it. He reached out to gently stroke her head. The gesture made him feel like he was comforting a child.

“It’s difficult, but not impossible. I’ve been thinking, and I have some ideas. Even if we can’t get all nine, it might be possible to gather three or five. Would that be enough?”

Wu Gang looked up in disbelief.

To gather the souls of the dragon sons, how difficult was that? She had assumed that Fan Li, having spent ten days studying the limited information, had reached a dead end. But he had actually come up with some solutions.

“M… Master, you don’t have to force yourself; if it’s not possible, then just forget it…”

Fan Li waved his hand and cut her off.

“To give up without trying is to leave a lifetime of regret. Even if we fail, at least we tried our best, right?”

Wu Gang didn’t understand what “tried our best” meant, she simply nodded blankly. Then she saw Fan Li retrieve a sword.

The Emperor’s Sword, a system reward.

As he held the sword, with his handsome features, he resembled a sword immortal. But his cultivation was still at the early Nascent Soul realm, a pitiful level.

“Someone!” he called out to a servant.

“What are your orders, Second Master?”

“Go find Third Master and invite his three wives. I have something to discuss.”

“Yes.”

The servant departed.

Third Master Fan, was, of course, Fan Chun.

And his three wives were Su Qingfang, Chen Shishi, and Qin Hongyu.

Thanks to Fan Li’s matchmaking, Fan Chun was now newly married.

But he and his wives didn't reside in the Fan Manor. They lived in the General’s Mansion, which was more befitting their status.
