Photos from my England Dark Caribbean research trip
Added 2025-06-03 23:10:37 +0000 UTCAhoy! I've just returned from an amazing trip to England for UK Games Expo and about 10 extra days of research for the Dark Caribbean. I can honestly say it was the most rewarding and productive trip of my life.
Stops included:
HMS Victory (1st rate ship of the line)
Mary Rose (shipwreck carrack)
Golden Hinde (Sir Francis Drake's ship)
Cutty Sark (clipper)
The National Maritime Museum (and the new Pirate Exhibit)
National Museum of the Royal Navy at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard
Several research trips to the British Library
An entire day at the British Museum
Highgate Cemetery
The Clink Prison Museum
The London Bridge Experience
Four visits to the pirate-themed Rhum Tavern
Two days in Rye, an old smuggling town that is the most Dark Caribbean-like place I've ever been. I stayed at the Mermaid Inn.
Many pubs and taverns like Ship Tavern, Mr. Fogg's Society of Exploration, Prospect of Whitby, and The William Kidd.
3 great days at UKGE with many friends and collages that included pickup games with the Mörk Borg guys, Chris Bissette, and Chris McDowall (Bastionland/Into the Odd), and run-ins with Cze (from Cze & Peku), Alex from MAD Cartographer, Pointy Hat, DND Shorts, Jordan Sorcery, Tuomas Pirinen (Trench Crusade/Mordheim/Warhammer), JVC Parry, Tom Cartos, Asher from Kickstarter, and so many more new and old friends!
I'm compiled my photos into a Google Photos album. Most of these are for research and inspiration purposes, but you'll see a few meals, locations, and friends mixed in. Also several videos. I hope you all might get some inspiration out of them!
