did anyone ever play zzt or megazeux? zzt started out as a text editor by tim sweeney (the epic megagames, unreal engine guy) that turned into basically a game creation toolkit. think of like if unreal engine was a text editor
you can download it here and it works on anything: https://www.digitalmzx.com/megazeux.php -- it can build a web player version so i'll just host it on my site eventually
EDIT: i added a reloading frame and stuff. the one iwth the number in it is newer! here it is but it's not much of a change lmao https://twitter.com/orioel/status/1259291441781780482/
anyway i started making a lil kilovolt thing in it. i replaced all the graphics and sounds and stuff you hear but it's still "technically" text-based.. also i made the shooting work like dangerous dave in the haunted mansion -- you have infinite ammo but you have to stand still to reload your blaster clip. i think it makes it feel a lil more strategic -- hang back near hallways a bit
that middle wall thing in the 08 room was from my thoughts about cover but i mean it basically barely just works lmao. the reloading thing was a pain. i think i want more wide open areas maybe
the docile gray monsters are a very early start at some more doom-like monster behavior. i'm thinking most of the enemies should be more like turrets that sort of pace around -- like doom monsters. the character-based movement definitely feels better if you're standing in place shooting at a group of monsters or something too
so i'm thinking slow and they have some health too. not a ton but more than one hit. i was thinking i'd have em change color when they take damage too hehe.. nothing's set in stone though
i'll attach my game project if you wanna try it but what you see on screen is all there is lmao. feel free to go into the editor and hit alt-h like it says
alt-g to see my global controller, or go over to that weird colored battery at the top left and hit enter on it a few times (that's the reloader robot that handles the reloady thing)
