Beta Release Date

Hey guys! Very proud to announce that we'll be launching the beta this month, September!

No matter what feature may still be in progress, this will be in your hands while we keep working on it.

We've been working on this non-stop for the last few months, and sorry for the lack of posts, but that's why we finally could complete all the fundamental features needed for the beta.

Thank you very, very much for your patience and support.

EmuVR will be in your hands until the end of this month, and we're working to make that sooner.

Thank you so much for that! I am big fan of retro games and so are millions of people around the world. I am a huge fan of what your doing and can't wait to see how it develops.

Multiplayer won't be ready for this launch, sorry, it's still being worked on. I had to draw the line, let it go, and finally start the beta "no matter what feature may still be in progress", so you guys can get it already before can I complete every feature ever. :')

Thank you, these kind of things are exactly what I was hoping that would happen for this project!

I know at least I'll be re-authoring labels. I'll even upload them somewhere if we can get some sort of database going.

GeilKatzchen

I have plans for that, where you could use the alpha channel in your labels to control the metallic iridescence reflections intensity. Though finding good compatible labels for everything can be hard enough for everyone, I don't know if many people will be re-authoring every label manually to paint where it should be reflective and where it's not. That said, this should be implemented anyway. But for now I'm actually just modulating it to some arbitrary values from the texture. It's mostly based on how near to gray it is. It's not very accurate and does look better on some labels than others, but it's still a good visual effect in the end! There's also other aspect that can change on actual CD's labels: glossiness. Here's a comparison, left to right: https://i.imgur.com/grdhrBC.jpg Reflectiveness and glossiness could be packed into the same alpha channel (complicating it even more.) But it's still less complicated than users having two separated texture files for each label.

EmuVR

That's a really pretty disc. Where did you get a label that was specular mapped like that? Are you using a label with transparency and automatically generating the specular map from that?

GeilKatzchen

We're aiming for it to be the most self explanatory and intuitive as possible. That said, when dealing with setting up your own games and labels, multiple emulators (libretro cores), it tends to not be 100% plug and play. So it's coming with instructions, but it should be pretty easy, and there's also some automation to help. Also, if you're already familiar with Retroarch, it should be even smoother.

EmuVR

Is everything self explanatory at this point, or will this come with a getting started guide or the like?

Max Tepafray

Publicly!

EmuVR

Will this beta be available publicly, or Patrons only?

Gabriel Petty

This is great! I logged on to check for news and you didn't disappoint!

GeilKatzchen

It already is! :D Here's how it works: we don't have all the 3D models for the virtual representation of all supported yet, we'll get there one day (also with the help of user generated content). But for systems that still don't have a model, you'll just see them as a "generic/placeholder console", so that you can at least play the games already. The supported systems are every core that works on Retroarch for Windows, and that include several NES cores. (Support for cores that need mouse input is still in progress)

EmuVR

Will the NES be a supported system sometime in the future? Please say yes Please say yes. I will donate higher if needed. 0_0 :D
