Dev Update - 2024/10/04

Hey everyone,

Just a quick update for this week as nothing extraordinary happened... which is usually a good thing.
The new PC hasn't arrived yet but once it does I'll be moving all the game-related stuff over to the new PC which will take some time.
I'll try to keep the downtime as short as possible.

The second step will soon be to set up a NAS for both PCs to share a place for the scene files and images. Not sure if I can/want to share the DAZ library as that is quite big already and I fear that the performance will take a huge hit when it's using the NAS for loading assets.

Anyway, I'll keep you guys updated on the progress from the PC front.

The numbers for this week:
87 new static renders for a total of 332
1 new animation for a total of 2 (1+1... didn't even need the calculator for this)
213 new lines in the script file for a total of 1106 (I did use the calculator for this...)

Have a nice weekend, guys.

Cheers,
Ceolag

yep the network will be the bottleneck. Tried to copy my folder with all the game files (scenes files, images, etc) to the new pc through LAN connection. Estimated time: ~17 hours Ended up updating the backup on the external SSD (had to do it today anyway) and copy that over. Time: 1.5 hours... Git is another thing. I need to deal with it on the day job soon anyway so I'll probably check it out for source code control for TNT too

I know nothing about DAZ or its file layouts, but you're right. Even mid-grade, local storage can out-run NAS (NFS or CIFS/SMB) in many cases unless you've got very fast networking end-to-end. In a new PC, you're likely looking at NVMe/M.2 or other solid state storage which may be much much faster than NAS. As such, if there's a way to have a centralized, authoritative copy and push/pull changes to local storage, that might be a win for render times. If DAZ would work with it, a local, freeware git repository might be an option as well as for general source code/revision control.
