Regarding itch.io
Added 2024-06-07 06:01:08 +0000 UTCHey everyone,
Not really development-related but I want to make sure that people see this.
As of yesterday, June 6th 2024, I restricted access to my itch.io page so it doesn't show up for people who don't own the game (through itch.io).
The reason is itch still taking 30% of my US sales as tax withhold despite my country having a tax treaty with the US.
I contacted itch about the issue in early March and they got back to me within 2 weeks but told me I need to contact their tax support.
Which I did in mid-March. I haven't heard a single word from them. I tried to contact them 3 times now, the last time on May 21st. Not a single response.
Why is that important?
Essentially, every US sale (which are the majority for me) gets double-taxed. 30% by itch, 20% sales tax in my country.
So almost half of the money of each sale goes into taxes. Add to that the itch share and I'm below 50% before I even have to pay other stuff like income tax, conversion fees, assets, etc.
I haven't decided how I'll proceed with itch. I want to make sure, that everybody who supported me there can still access later versions.
Maybe I'll keep the page hidden but upload the updates and have a new page for the demo.
If you want to make the switch to the Steam version in September, please contact me providing the email address you used to buy the game there. I'll get you a Steam key for free no matter how much you paid for the game there.
Cheers,
Ceolag
