Preview of the last Search & Rescue segments

While Search & Rescue never really figured out what it was meant to be til the very end, I really like the very last segment. It was something very different and chose the best option for what the subseries could have been. Plus it's so nice to focus on the core team without having to mess around with Humdinger or Digi & Tal causing chaos.

S12E7a isn't great. One of the attempts to give Search & Rescue an identity is having Chase teach safety stuff to the young kids, and this time it's being a crossing guard. As exciting as it sounds. Through various mishaps the chickens used for this run amok, including one ending up on a drill nearly piercing a lemonade tanker as all the boring new characters say dumb stuff. Oh so zany and wacky. It tries too hard and ends up a snooze.

But I really like E7b. It retreads some of the ground of Pups Save Ryder, but with the pups a bit more capable and the situation a bit more tense. Ryder gets trapped in a cave and the pups have no idea where he is. It's cute hearing "Chase needs us!" and him picking himself for the mission, haha. He gives everyone something to do, Marshall's animal communication is remembered, and we're reminded at last how nice it is to have an episode with hardly any humans and all the focus on the pups. The only thing I didn't like so much is the silly squeaker and how that leads to Ryder actually being found. But this is definitely one of the best segments in years.

Search & Rescue is so uneven! Most of it is kinda trash but the two missing persons episodes, 6a and 7b, are amongst the best segments the show's had in six or seven seasons. It will be hard to give the subseries overall a ranking...

Yeah, one episode was Chase/Zuma/Skye. She's in a police helicopter, of course.
