Stand's legit changed Jojo from an enjoyable old school shonen into a unique and memorable classic. Hamon is cool, don't get me wrong, but like you said the fact that some parasitic growth can be a stand really tells the audience that anyone and anything can be used in a battle. Shonen nowadays are about trying to develop more powerful abilities to defeat stronger foes, but Jojo is just about putting random creative stuff together and seeing what happens and Araki is imo the most creative mangaka when it comes to that. A fly can be a stand, a ship can be a stand just in the same way as Silver Chariot, Red Magician or any other humanoid stand can be one. Each episode you have no clue what the group is going to fight or how they're going to overcome it, but what you do know is you're going to be hyped as fuck for it. Can't wait for you to see the other parts and see how creative Araki can get
