You got it! This was also revealed a few chapters ago, I believe 1098. They had a panel saying “7 years ago, when Bonny was 5” hinting at the fact that she is 12 y/o in the present day.

as someone who wasnt that enthusiastic about reading one piece weekly for past 2-3years and was reading it just to not get spoiled, this flashback brought me back into the series and I still cant wrap my mind around how Oda tied up together everything we saw Kuma doing through out the series

This reminds me of chapter 908, where you could see Bonney cying after she saw Kuma (when the Celestial Dragon St. Rosward was using Kuma as a slave to move him around). Around that time there wasn't really any context to make out of it, yet Oda hinting it already with the well placed dialog when St. Charlos way talking to his "Daddy/Father" and you see the speech bubble right next to Bonny and Kuma.

Wow, this was hard to go through, Oda is just THAT guy (besides Khan). I have a feeling that we will get a bad ending with Kuma on top of what we've seen already. This is where the "self destruct mechanism" will come into play, it'll be activated shortly or even before he's about to see Bonney again, passing away with the last words to Bonney being "i love you".... could you imagine that scene? Oh man... On the brighter side: We NEED Bonney on the ship, imagine Luffy and her constantly eating all the food reserves away lmao, their dynamic would be sick! Her cuddling with Chopper and falling asleep, Robin and Nami being her older sisters in a way. Franky reminding her of Kuma, Usopp telling her "made up" stories, Sanji trying his hardest to not be a "perv" when she changes her appearence (not a fan of that tbh but it'll go that way...). Seeing Kuma's mental strenght in Zoro, Jimbei letting Bonney ride some Sharks, Brook making songs with her about Nika, Kuma etc..

Bonney for Strawhats. If Oda doesn't do it I'm honestly kinda mad. No Strawhat ever had a better build up. I can forgive him about Yamato not joining. But he better not do it again with Bonney. She NEEDS to be with Nika. That chapter made it clear. Kuma wants it for Bonney, she wants it (to find Nika) - here we are: She found him.

Well, I interpret it differently tbh. To me it shows that Kuma always was on the run in some sort of way. It showed us all the friends he found but also "lost". He lost some, he ran, he found someone - and repeat. All his live he was running until the very end. To me this is why he - in the end - was smiling. He finally reached his goal. Death didn't mean somethin bad to him. He made sure his daughter was fine, he placed his cards on Luffy and left his marks. He finally could stop running.

The whole page where Kuma remembers his past with his family and Iva, Ginny, Dragon, must be one of the most beautiful pages. Look at the details of the panels where Kuma is running. First on grass, as a free young boy. Then he can run on a good stable ground.. Afterwards, there are many rocks in his way.. and finally, he can be at peace again, running on a smooth nice grassy ground.. free and happy again in the end of his life.
