If there is a gap then it is short. For me there is a character that has shown to have surpassed Mihawk AND Shanks , Teach , dude made a important scar on Shanks ( man even admitted he wasn't caught off guard, we have never heard of Mihawk scarring Shanks, that had to be his most important injury ever ) , and that was before the arm chomp, before Teach got two overpowered devil fruit. Thing is in all fight shown of blackbeard he is always acting like an opportunist and a coward when the odds in HIS mind aren't looking great. For me, a cornered current BlackBeard has a 55%/60% of chance to lay the hands on Shanks. And yes, Mihawk's clout mostly comes from his duels with Shanks, obviously, but when either one does a thing it boosts the other, it is beneficial for both characters.

not saying there is a massive gap between them , but there is certainly a gap and if shanks had to go all in he will beat him surely even with one arm. now not saying he will win easily of course , and im not saying vista is mihawk's equal i know that mihawk is way stronger than that and im aware of his character build . just saying that the debate is useless cause there is not a single character stronger than shanks right now on OP , at least based on the things Oda's showing us. he just let the readers have a little bit of imagination with mihawk's character and they went all crazy comparing him to the strongest one out there just because they shared a past.

Cute excuse but definitely a possibility, and I don't mind Shanks being stronger than Mihawks, what's rubbing me the wrong way is hearing people say that Shanks mid difs / curb stomps Mihawk, with all the hints related to their size / birthdays, there is no way that there is a "massive gap " between them. And for your last point, Mihawk likes to toy with his prey, just like his introduction with Don Kreig, out of all Shichibukai present at Marineford, Mihawk fought directly his strongest opponent with Vista ( You can bring up Doflamingo, but Crocodile was skill-wise underwhelming at MF ). And "held" is a strong word for that, practically all Marine-alined Warlords present were there to keep their status, they did the bare minimum there, I'd even say Mihawk had the least impact out of all of them in the war. He was taking a walk.

Both translations have pros and cons. Really it's week to week basis on which one produced the better lines. Either way they are both not official so it doesn't matter which sounds better. The scanlations are just a way for fans to read the chapter earlier without getting spoiled.

Like pre timeskip? We didn't know where we were going after fishman island which led us to this entire mega saga. Also, we had an idea of where we were going numerous times during the pre timeskip. The crew knew they were going to arlong park, alabasta, skypiea, enies lobby, impel down, and marineford. Thats way too big of a chunk of pre ts to attribute it to ONLY pre ts

"Stopped kaido " > him and King vs Shanks and his main crew probably at sea , yeah makes sense to bring that point ( both devil fruit users in open sea , great plan ) The clash between Vista and Mihawk was probably dragged out because it had been probably a while that he didn't have a proper swordsman fight, for all we know Vista may be in the top 5 swordsman pre-timeskip , why waste and rush a good sword fight when he got bored to death since Shanks lost his arm ? That's one of the main point of Mihawk's character, since Shanks isn't worthy of clashing him, he is suffering from success, that's one of the reason why he joined Baggy, to "legally" clap some Marine officer.

Why would you want him to use that translation? Just because you like it better, it doesn't mean it is. The official has some issues, but it's the one closest to the Japanese meanings. TCB change a lot in the translation, I'd say even OPScans is better in terms of correctness from the chapters I've compared. But still, neither of them can measure up to official.
