I feel like watching Khan's reaction was the perfect way to experience Wano without any of the weekly theory bias, and it showed me that Wano ended faaarrrr better than I first thought it did. Don't get me wrong I get emotional during One Piece as well but something about the way Khan reads and talks about things while he's reacting makes me feel the emotion even more. I honestly enjoyed this read through with Khan more than I enjoyed reading the chapters weekly lol. Of course the hype was on another level weekly, but I mean the emotional side hit a lot harder here. Wano had some bad moments but its highs were so fucking good. Keen for the next chapters!

There are going to people like you and Khan who look to understand the authors intended message but there will be others who just want the series written according to their every little wim. Just remember that they are a vocal minority and that One Piece is the best selling manga of all time for a reason.

I didnt get that on my first read because it wasnt mentioned but it should be obvious anyway since Luffy hit his head...just letting you guys know in case you missed that detail.

Proof being that before he's sold to the navy, he questions why the celestial dragons are obeyed when they aren't even powerful in the physical sense. He was already of the mindset that physical might was everything. That's why when king asked him in punk hazard "can you change the world" his answer was " I'm the only one who can". He truly believes he's the strongest and by that metric, he should rule the lands and make everyone conform to his belief of warfare. I love what he represents in one piece truly

Also, it's a misconception within the community that flashbacks have set rules and regulations on how they SHOULD be written. Flashbacks in stories, like everything else, are a narrative tool. Meaning every time it's used it could have a different purpose. Example being a fully drawn out-multiple chapter flashback of Luffy's earlier years being appropriate to the story being told. Which is needed context of Luffy and ace's connection to one another. Compare that with for example the flashback in thriller bark relating to brook's situation. It was told over the span of several chapter through bits and pieces. The narrative tool of a flashback was used in a completely different method because it served a different purpose. Fluctuating between past and present was how Oda chose to share brook's story that aligned with the flow of the arc. Again context and purpose matter according to the story trying to be told. A flashback also isn't mandated to be a certain way. Kaido being in the story for 10 years as an overarching antagonist doesn't mandate him having a backstory. He doesn't even "have" to have one at all. His character can (and was) be fleshed out in the current story. TLDR: His backstory wasn't long, but did it serve it's purpose? Yes lmao. It addressed something he stated IN THE CHAPTER, in a concise, efficient, and coherent manner while also giving context to certain dialogues said previously. It wasn't meant to display the "Life of Yonko Kaido" in which every aspect of his life would be displayed. Context matters and what you're asking for would hinder the story.

I read Wano weekly for over 3 years, engaging with the weekly discourse. I picked up headcannons and theories throughout that time, that unfortunately tainted my opinion of Wano when those things didn't happen. Overall I enjoyed Wano, it's a good arc with amazing peaks, that didn't fully live up to my expectations but I wonder how much more I would've enjoyed it, having just read it by myself like I first did when I was catching up to the series in the first place. Anyways great stuff as always Khan!

She didn't have a second of free thought or free will, she was being molded into a human weapon since she was dropped off at Elbaf. Here is Kaido, at the age of 10 saying "I want more combat" in the very first scene of him in his flashback. Sure, things went wrong in his life, but he had a screw loose from the start (from what the very limited flashback showed us) and it doesn't even come close to justifying or making sense of anything he's done.
