The fan translations uses simple vocabulary and says the same stuff in easy to understand words so Khan acc understands it. He read the fan translation version of the gorosei and straight up concluded Luffy was the topic of conversation. Mayhaps he might need to read fan translations from now on cos i notice he doesnt understand a lot of words from the official ones

2023-02-07 15:13:57 +0000 UTCI think while Khan being somewhat a novice to manga is partially to blame, he never had that much of an issue with some of the other manga's he's read in the past. Let's not pretend that the panel composition and structure is great in One Piece, Oda is dogshit at it, the flow from panel to panel, dialogue to dialogue is pretty poor and sometimes it's not structured in a very coherent manner to the point that movement and dialogue can be messy and confusing. There's some panels from the recent arc of One Piece that are so bloated and messy that the direction is almost non existent and you just have to hope you read it right

But I don't understand how he notices some things that most people miss and yet misses obvious things that he is staring at directly. For example, the Luffy vs Kaido fight, he thought Luffy hit him with the elephant gun and that Kaido missed with the Ragnaraku even though Luffy is screaming in pain in the next page.

One piece usually has a pattern of having 3 rows of panels for single pages but double pages can sometimes get tricky with the paneling. You can zoom into panels but you need to understand the panel layout before zooming in. Also for god's sake please look at the entire panel before reading the speech bubbles. Manga is a visual medium, the art is equally as important if not more important than the text bubbles.

2023-02-07 11:08:06 +0000 UTCKhan maybe you should hide you're taskbar, and by doing that you would not be missing this many panels, do that if you want : 1 - Open the Start menu by clicking on the Windows button in the taskbar, and then choose Settings. Alternatively, you can use the Win + I keyboard shortcut to open the window automatically. 2 - Click on the Personalization menu, and then click Taskbar from the right-side pane. You’ll be redirected to the interface for managing taskbar behaviors and system pins. 3 - Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Taskbar behaviors button to expand its options. Make sure that the Automatically hide the taskbar option is checked. 4 - The auto-hide function will automatically hide the taskbar after moving the cursor away from this area. If needed, there's always an option of popping it back up by hovering your mouse at the bottom. Overall this reaction was so frustrating to watch, it's like he doesn't want to scroll down the page to get spoiled, but khan you're a manga reader, meaning you have to read lol, and I agree with those saying you should stop zooming before reading

One thing I'll add though, sometimes the translator Stephen Paul is on the One Piece Podcast and he'll explain why he translated things the way he did; whether to make something said more natural for English readers or because he was trying to get across a joke only Japanese people will get without losing the context. Some characters names he has no control over, because when the manga first launched in the U.S., shortly after the horrible 4Kids dub dropped and Viz catered to a lot of their spellings (hence Zolo and Elbaph for example). Generally speaking I think it's good to pick one and read that, but can't hurt to check out other translations to see if there's some nuance lost if you're really not sure about something.

2023-02-07 00:59:54 +0000 UTCYeah I mean honestly I much prefer the scan translation not only does it just feel more raw but I feel the translators do a great job at conveying the actual meaning of panels. Like in this instance the official is probably more correct in terms of the text book translation but with Japanese being able to be read in different ways you can see how context clues can change the way the sentence is read "Inconveniences" and "nuisance" can be pretty similar translations, the official seems more like a direct textbook translation whereas the scans seem to translate it in a more 'native' Japanese speaker way imo. There have even been instances the community has corrected the official translation also and they have fixed it for the volume releases. The official obviously does an amazing job and it's easily the most clean translation especially with sound effects and I will always support the official and Oda himself by buying official manga but I think the main certain scan organization at the moment is the superior translation and I would almost recommend it over the offical Viz. Even if Khan sticks to the official though the reactions are fucking amazing and the official translation isn't egregious enough to ruin my enjoyment. It's almost funny to say that the official is less authentic than fan translations but I think at the moment it captures One Piece more faithfully.
