Let him watch the first tybw episode and get to the movie alongside with fairytail. Its not that deep.

Tbf tho its a sick movie with more vasto lorde ichigo vs ulquiorra action and dives into the 'hell' world which is later mentioned in the bleach manga. However he should not be stressing about it before catching up, he can live react to it on the side with fairytail aslong as he eventually gets to it right? Theres absolutely no rush stop stressing mans out about it before 'being up to date'. Especially if it means hes gonna be all stressed/not give us a live reaction to it. SIDE NOTE - Tite Kubo asked for his name to be removed from this movie he didnt want any sort of association, this is because and i quote "none of the ideas i discussed with the scriptwriter were communicated onto the team". He even goes as far as saying "the only reason the characters in this movie retained a bleach like feeling was thanks to the voice actors". The events that took place in this movie were far from canon however the 'world' (hell) shown is indeed part of the canon of bleach. There will probably be a canon hell arc written by Tite Kubo himself very very soon, id imagine it would be animated within 2 years max.
