Kenpachi wants to enjoy fighting as long as possible and nobody he fought could stand up to him hence he put those handicaps on him. His thought wasn't "i need to be crippled and still win" it was more like "damn i need to cripple myself else all my opponents die too fast"

People tend to forget how much he handicapped himself so that he can make the fight between him and ichigo an equal one. He does not go into fights knowing that he will 100% win them I dont see him as that type of warrior. He would lower himself and nerf himself to his opponents strength so that he could have a thrilling fight because otherwise it would be too boring for him. My man literally: -wore an eyepatch that eats away his reiatsu(spiritual pressure) while lowering his spiritual pressure in the beginning. - let ichigo slash him multiple times and take the first hit for the thrill of it. - was fighting with a rusty sword that he did not even unlock an ounce of its potential nor did he take care of it. - wore bell-rings on his hair so that his opponent can always know where he is even if he surprised attacked him. - and I dont know if you clocked it khan but he was fighting with one hand that whole time😂 Nobody can put all those handicaps on himself and win any fight other than kenpachi let alone fighting ichigo and taking him down. I believe he said he lost because to his standards, he wants to win even WITH all those handicaps.

KENPACHI IS THE GOAT, there's no other explanation.
