New Sketch of a coastal scene

Hi all!

Just finished a new sketch that was actually inspired by a photo that John Howe (yes, THE John Howe who illustrated large parts of Lord of the Rings and Hobbit) took.

As of right now, I am not sure yet if I should give the wizard a dog as a companion in this piece. What is important to me in this piece is not to challenge myself in terms of the motive, but rather focus on having it be really dynamic within the wind, I want the viewer to feel as if the piece comes alive with the strong wind that is going on at coasts sometimes. In my opinion, it is so important to pick a topic I want to improve on with each piece in the making, and it will be to make it dynamic this time, as it was with architecture and more people in the last one. The wizard might be reading some symbols on this menhir, I kind of like that idea.

Have a nice week!

Simon

Thank you so much! I feel exactly as you described. I have definitely been given more talent than the usual person, but that stops VERY quick once I get out of my comfort zone or don't try to improve. It feels like some people never have to learn for school until they get to uni, and then their intelligence just runs out, and not doing anything is just not enough (I had that as well) ๐Ÿคฃ in a way, getting better through trying to get better is the most rewarding thing.

I love being able to read your thought process as you start these pieces. That while you are naturally talented, you are still reaching and pulling for something within, something farther away than your fingertips
