New Artwork "Stargazer's Sanctuary"

Well, uhm, this was done so fast that I forgot the process steps - I'm sorry. It first started out with a sketch for a building that was far away, and then got bigger and bigger, adding more buildings as I feel in some kind of mania. The whole piece was pretty much done in a single day.

To be clear, this is a finished artwork - I loved to only draw this time! After everything was finished, I tried painting in colors beneath the lineart just to try it out, but quickly realized that the piece was done to stand on it's own, and for example, the rather dark shadows interfere hugely with the impression that the color makes. If I do colors, the lines have to be way more "humble".

This kind of got me to the realization that a piece is either done in color or in black ink, but is planned out like one or the other before actually starting the process.

Drawing the texture was immensely enjoyable, with a lot of searching for the right look, but a great and interesting challenge. I am not so sure yet what to do with the sky, clouds that are too big would probably distract too much from the towers silhouette. The wizard had to be included again though, I like that he doesn't stand out immediately, it feels a bit like looking at an image from "Where is Waldo" :)

Anyways, I promise to record the next process better - I'll most likely use thinner lines as well to have more texture all over the piece, even in the more lighter areas.

Merry Christmas to all of you - thank you once again so much for being on this ride with me!

Best,
Simon
