Hallo! I’m in Italy.
The filming of TWIST at the Bill Murray went really well. I think I did a solid job of a show I’m very proud of - dropped one thing but remembered to pick it up. Found clothes that worked for the show, which I needed to do as the clothes I’d worn as my stage uniform in edinburgh weren’t going to work.

The audience were lovely and it was so nice to see a little pack of Patreons in the audience.

It was lovely of them to come and also to take this v awkward photo with me afterwards. I can guarantee everyone in this photo is less deranged looking and more dapper in real life.
Hoping the completed edit will be out soon, and will chase Chris from GoFasterStripe about release date asap.
New Life New Identity: D’Ancey LaGuarde
With the second biggest twist of TWIST being that I’m taking a solid step back from most live work for the next little while (not quitting, not table-flipping, just doing the numbers on touring and gigging with a baby means I have to be much more ruthless about what work I’ll do having to be worth it, and that means saying no to 90% of everything I would have said yes to before… honestly before the pandemic, so this has been coming for a while), arriving in Italy for this post-edinburgh D’Ancey Book Completion Surge has felt a bit like starting a new life.
First big things I’ve noticed as someone who could now legitimately identify as mainly having a job as a writer:
1) a lot of writing work is just the logistics of making space and time for writing work.
2) I’m fast at writing, which is a thing I already knew; I work well to short deadlines but I write in sprints, rather than middle or long-distance stretches.
3) I’m still worried that the quick-fix dopamine loop of getting a joke from conception to out the door completed is the main process I know for how to produce and iterate work towards goodness. We will see how much that’s a fiction produced by my own fears vs how real it is, and if real, what I can do to work with/against it.

News Quiz Update
For those asking, yes I will be writing on the News Quiz this season but only on the last three episodes this time round, so tune in and tweet when they go to air!
The Bugle: Live
I’ll be joining Andy Zaltzman and Chris Addison to do a Live Bugle! This could be the only Live Bugle this year, so don’t miss out if you’re in london or thereabouts. (See! Not quitting! Just only doing the worthwhile things!)
16 September | 7pm @ Leicester Square Theatre
Tickets: https://www.leicestersquaretheatre.com/the-bugle-live/

It’ll be like this but I’ll be there in real life.
New Tea With Alice: Cerys Bradley
This was a lovely chat with Cerys about being aware of and managing your own “batteries”, what accommodations you can ask for and how to do the work you want to do in the world.
