Right! Sorry to do two updates in one day, but I did say it’d be a bit chaotic for the month of August! Thanks to Sam Streeter for keeping me on the straight and narrow.
First things first, the first Live Salon in Edinburgh is at MIDDAY TOMORROW at the Tea House on St Patrick Square. I’ll be doing one a week for the rest of the fringe. Come, have a cuppa and a chat!
You can subscribe to the google calendar over at the linktree for maximum convenience and if there are any last minute time changes for the zoom meets due to Important Edinburgh Fringe Business or whatever, you’ll be the first to know.
Tea With Alice: UpbringingCast
After my time with Matt Lieb on Pod Yourself a Gun (Pod Yourself A Gun - A Rewatch Podcast) about season three episode seven of The Wire, “Back Burners, it was great to talk to him over tea and many LA healthful beverages about impact, parenting, the stress of straddling the culture wars, race science and what the real problem is in America.
I love doing these reciprocal podcasts where I play in their world and then bring them in to mine. It gives me insights into people I love and respect that I could never quite anticipate, and it makes me happy to share.

Fancy Lists and nice things. (ie. you’re right to enjoy my work, according to some other people)
I’ve not paid for PR this year and I don’t read most lists because they sometimes make me feel weird in a way that I don’t enjoy and doesn’t feel… genuine? Like I’m not actually jealous of the people on the lists, but the format of the list reminds me of a kind of “all or nothing”, “haves and have-nots” culture that I don’t joy. Also, when you’re around for a while you realise that when you read about any performer in the newspaper, it’s secretly just letting you know lwho saved up for the most expensive edinburgh PR with the best connections and therefore doesn’t have much to do with anything.
But clearly this list from the Telegraph is obviously very accurate and good as according to them, I’m the 39th best comedian of the 21st century, and not at all just that one of the nice culture editors happened to randomly drop into one of my previews a couple of weeks ago and it went okay.
The 50 best comedians of the 21st century (telegraph.co.uk) (Subscription required, relevant passage screenshot below just in case you don’t LOVE the Telegraph and all they stand for enough to pay money to find out all the rankings. Bo Burnham is number one, spoiler alert.)

Chortle have also been very clever and added my show to a list of their own, despite not actually giving me the most stellar review this year (fair cop for the night he came, TBH). There’s so many great people on the chortle Aussies of note list, it’s an honour to be in the mix with them.

CONTENT WARNING
Trying to figure out what to tell my flyerers what to say about me and my show. The part of this work that I find hardest is *summing myself up*. If anyone has any bright suggestions as to what sales pitch would bring you to a show (and would be moderately accurate about my kind of work), please please let me know.
Also! Let me know if there’s anything you’d like to see from my more regular updates during the Festival. The whole thing is so strange and surreal. It’s fun to bring folks into this very strange world, but I don’t want to spam your inboxes with things that you’ll find boring.
