TimeWarp and Tea With Alice Salon 43

This is a photo I took of the three sisters in January of this year, and I feel like that was yesterday and also forever ago. I feel like time is a bit out of joint for a lot of us, these days (can we even call them these days any more?).

I resent it being Xmas already - it feels like a trick. Hence the joke I did on last week’s Bugle/Gargle (I try not to repeat too much material, but I’m cutting myself a little slack on the writing front for obvious reasons), about how to pretend it isn’t Christmas.

How do you give yourself a sense of time? I feel like a lot of what we do to entertain ourselves erases time, or rushes us forward through time. The things I’ve found help a lot are meditating and intense variety. Polar opposite ways of getting to the same state of noticing the world as it really is, not as we expect it to be. But they both work. What do you do?

Anyway, tomorrow evening my time will be the next Tea With Alice Salon.

Details below and I’ll send the passcode through a few hours before for the relevant levels.

As ever,

Massive life changes such as births, deaths, marriages, change of job/role or moving country are good for giving a sense of time as they are something to pin to a specific date. They still take a lot of time, but at least they are memorable.

Only after moving from a higher latitude to a lower one, did I realise how much my sense of time passing is bound up in seasons and the changing daylight hours. When neither of these happen, at least in a way I am familiar with, then time gets very smeared out for me. Even after quite a few years I miss this rhythm, with everything being a rather indeterminate now.

I've found that my sense of time has *really* gone to hell since having a kid five years ago. I've got my own fiftysomething breakneck pace conflicting with his every day is potentially full of wonder and firsts, so I feel like his life is passing just as fast as mine, and he's *just now* getting to a point where he's going to remember, like, anything as an actual event.

OK thanks, I'll slink quietly back to my seat & wait a month, hoping no-one noticed ...

It’s the standard salon level, which is to say $15 and up. Last week was all levels and I try to do one of those each month or so, as I feel weird about having tiers, though I quite like the smaller group dynamic.

Hi Alice, what level Patreon is the next Salon #43 please? (calling out from the cheap seats at the back :-) )

And I knew that when I corrected it but fucked it nonetheless! Excellent work Fraser
