See you Tuesday night (or Wednesday morning, if you’re in Aus)

I’ll send through the password a few hours before the zooom caaaallllll.

DM me with questions or suggestions for discussion topics.

Tea With Alice Salon 7: U.K. time

Comments

I just saw your comment, that would’ve been a fun tangent to go on! I used to work at the broadcaster that does the German version for three years and at least from the European perspective the narrative is immensely centred around the “far away from everything and a lot of bugs we don’t have at home” aspect. And the producers get to brag about going to Australia for work, although they don’t get to see anything apart from the hotel and the production site. For Australia, I’d guess it comes down to the same “problem”; which is that the brand of “I’m a Celebrity” partly works that well because it’s been built around the participants (more or less) being left to their own devices in an unfamiliar environment which basically excludes the concept of a domestic production. I’ll stop rambling now, I just thought I’d weigh in on this :) Hope you have a lovely last two days of this year, and all the best for 2021 :)

Hope I can make it tonight!

P.S no suggestions for topics, but really enjoy your podcasts and hope you're going well

Ooh, what a gorgeous sea pool. I had a glorious swim at Austinmer sea pool recently.

Do we actually care where mid/low grade celebrities are mildly inconvenienced/tortured for entertainment?

I’ve been thinking too much about the “I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here” franchise (they’re advertising heavily here for the new season) I believe that the UK season has been shot in Wales (?) and the new Australian season is being shot in Australia. They’re doing so much advertising to say that a “local” version will be just as good & I’m overthinking as to why. Are they not allowed to do stuff locally due to different OH&S requirements? Is it cultural cringe that foreign is better? Is it that the overseas location aspect added a fundamental element?
