The brilliant Sam has stepped up and she has agreed to help me begin producing these again. Here’s a picture of some early tests. I’ve had a few requests to get the “no-one’s going to die / we’re all going to die” necklaces back available for people and was a bit stuck as the lovely artist who was helping me before had to stop producing them.
These ones and some “only the unfinished can contain the infinite...” should be up on the website again soon in a very very limited run to test interest, and I’ll announce it here first when they’re back up.
For backstory (if you haven’t heard me explain it before), the motto “no-one’s going to die / we’re all going to die” is a thing I say to myself when I’m stressed about emotional or work stuff. Obviously there are jobs that it doesn’t work for, but for most people in wealthy countries we have the opportunity, the luxury, the privilege of failing. If I’m stuck in some piece of work or anxious about it, I remind myself of that incredible privilege - if I fuck up a joke, if I stick my foot in my mouth in an interview, if I mess up a delicate conversation with a friend, if I say something half-baked: no-one’s going to die.
So just get on with it. Do the work.
Also, as a buddhist who grew up with suffering and death, I’m very conscious that we’re all going to die. Most of us don’t get to choose how long we stay able, how long we have our bodies and minds. We’re all going to die.
So just get on with it. Do the work.
Anyway, it’s a useful little motto for me - and for some other people too. One brilliant person who likes my work has it as a tattoo, and a pair of delightful people used the original necklace as their proposal medium for marriage. So if it’s something you might like, I’ll make it available early for you Patreons and if enough people are interested, and Sam has the energy, we’ll start hand-hammering more.
Xx
