This is hardly a surprise, by now. But if you had tickets to come or planned to buy some, I’m sorry.
Currently figuring out things I can do from home (and am open to suggestions), starting with doing a livestream and running my solo show, or a chat show (or a show of some kind) in the time slots I had scheduled for the festivals. Tossing up between twitch, instagram live, YouTube and others for that.
Obviously Savage will be coming out on Amazon Prime on the 17th of April and we will do an online viewing party with a Q&A after.
Things I’ve been thinking
Drop in the comments below what you’d prefer. The upside of doing my solo show is running it in, but if I do something different every night, you can come back and hang out with me every night and we all won’t be so lonely. Again, let me know your preferences in the comments.
I’m still planning on flying home to Aus, which is a tricky decision to make in the absence of work, but my current visa here in the U.K. winds up at the end of the month and I need to leave the country in order to reapply. So, with the stay-or-go teetering on a knife edge, I’ve decided to go back to Sydney and bunker down with family (after my self quarantine period). I’ll still be putting out The Last Post daily, Tea With Alice weekly-ish and The Bugle whenever Andy Zaltzman and Chris Skinner want me on.
I spent the first two months of this year kicking myself for falling out of live work/road gigs because the podcasts, Audible documentaries and other studio projects were so absorbing and The Last Post was eating my brain. I worried that I was going to get to festival time underprepared and rusty.
Suddenly, the ground has changed under all our feet and it turns out to have been a lucky error to have figured out a work life that doesn’t require me to go to enclosed spaces and demand people push air out of their lungs at me.
I’ll miss seeing you, if you were going to come, and I’ll miss the traveling circus of performers who are often such a brilliant community to have. So (to return to the paragraph up towards the top of this ramble) I want to figure out ways I can do something as close to ‘live performance with you in the room’ as possible.
Talk again soon!
Xx
