Edinblog Days 5,6 and 7

What a week! I truly thought I had written my last update like two days ago. Until my lovely friend and writing reminder, Sam sent me an email, I was all “don’t be compulsive about it, you totally wrote your last blog yesterday right?”. She reminded me that it’s been DAYS!

Time sort of blends into itself here, particularly as when you have any spare time you might try taking a nap. But luckily for you lovely people, someone’s decided to do some construction work outside my window this morning, so I am awake!

Anyway, a good reminder, a noisy angle grinder and a Friday stripped of Promo-spots means I am back on the blogwagon. (Urgh, an unpleasant turn of phrase). Today I’m planning on either doing nothing or watching everyone else’s shows. (Suggestions below).

The last three days have been full of things. First, I got a nice five star review for my show. I’ve had a few reviewers in, but I don’t check the review sites and I’ve asked to only be sent very very nice reviews because:

a) it doesn’t matter, unless they’re good enough or bad enough or prominent enough to change the number of people choosing to come to my show

b) I don’t need to spend a day full of fury and disappointment

c) often they’re really badly written and I get very annoyed and also sad about the death of journalism as an industry.

I will however, read both good and bad reviews of colleagues and friends whose work I admire, to remind myself that reviewers are sometimes right and sometimes wrong.

You all deserve an update on the fringe and also, update on the antibiotics (they’ve either given me a mild yet massively visible rash on my neck and chest, or that is unrelated, doctor suggesting exciting and glamorous possibilities including heat reaction, sun-reaction, allergic to something else in Edinburgh or scarlet fever, which I have to assume it isn’t, or I’d be feeling a lot worse).

Enough about your rash! Give us a professional update about your professional work!

I’ve been commissioned to write a pilot for an original fantasy/comedy series for a cool audio platform that I like and have worked with before. Need to sign a contract before I can start boasting about it, but it’s certainly made edinburgh excitingly more full of stuff!

I will also be using edinburgh where I can to run Savage back in because...

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT

I will be performing Savage in Melbourne on 10 September. Why? I’m not technically allowed to say. I don’t know why people are so obsessed with secret things but I guess they don’t want to blow the publicity horn too early and they want to reserve the right to change their minds if it turns out bad.

But let’s just say I’m reviving Savage for a special reason and please please come along if you’re in Melbourne or close enough to Melbourne to get to. I’m trying to talk them into giving me a bunch of free tickets specifically for you, my patreonite sweethearts (because there is ABSOLUTELY no way I’ll fill out a 600 seat theatre in Melbourne on this kind of notice), so please share this ticket link around.

Oh did you mean why did I choose Savage for the very special show? I’ll do a separate post about that if you like (comment below!)

Questions, comments, critiques? 5 star reviews?

Leave them below (or on reputable review websites so I can stick em on my posters ;))

Thanks for the hint. I'd already bought my ticket to your show, but I think I'll have to see how Dilruk's and Celia's shows have grown since the festival. Looking forward to seeing all these shows.

All these great things are happening! You've earned this Alice. Well done you!
