I woke up too early today, and was pretty annoyed with myself. Sleep is important and I’ve gotten into a bad habit of trying to get more things done by waking up and charging into work because it’s that time of year where you can’t really do too much.
That said, yesterday was world fringe day, and my notifications popped this story into my life, which reminds me that the work I do can make a difference. Mostly it’s not providing people with a moment that helps them catalyse a massive life change (or I’d be charging a lot more for my tickets, and I’d probably be illegal). On a smaller scale though, it’s nice to remember that my stuff is *for people*, and they get to use it (or not) as they like, and sometimes they use it to swing for the fences.
You don’t want to get over-ambitious about what comedy can do - it tends to make it less funny. I know I can lean towards idealism about what a precisely articulated idea is capable of doing in the world, if you can figure out how to communicate it in a non-ham-fisted way to someone who wants to hear it. I don’t know.
Basically, this was nice and it made me feel good.
